I find it really helpful to do 2D paintovers when planning my work to block out ideas quickly. Sometimes ill go back and forth between 2d and 3d a few times as needed, it doesnt have to all be planned out at once at the very start. Its really nice for blocking out the big forms that are gonna have the biggest impact on the silhouette too.
