Amit Varma (IPS), a key member of the SIT that probed the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi was hounded, transfered from one post to another, maligned of irregularities that he never committed by the then Tamil Nadu government. Varma's only mistake was exposing the nexus between the LTTE that killed the former Prime Minister and the DMK and some of its ally parties. Varma, after the SIT submitted its report, was made 'advisor' to the Jain Inquiry Commission that looked into the larger conspiracy behind the assassination. There too, his leads were checked by the then Narasimha Rao government. Neither the Congress nor the DMK was interested in uncovering the ultimate truth.
