She writes, "Justice is what eludes the Kuki-Zo community, who have been at the receiving end of the conflict."
Here's what you missed out on, Patricia.
* From May 3, 2023, to April 27, 2024, 102 Meiteis and 114 Kukis lost their lives. The difference between the two is very small. The largest Meitei village, Khumujamba Leikai in Churachandpur, has been completely destroyed.
* What about Kuki terrorists who have been attacking Meitei minorities in the Kuki-dominated hills, sparking retaliatory attacks.These attacks have resulted in the destruction of 4792 houses. By using propaganda, any Meitei retaliation is portrayed as an attack on minorities.
* The violence erupted on May 3 from Churachandpur, a Kuki-Zo dominated area when the All Tribal Students' Union took out a Tribal Solidarity Rally.
* So, how did the Kukis end up on the receiving end of this conflict when they initiated it on May 3?
OK. I get your tribal solidarity and Christian alignment.

What about focusing on the Meiteis too who are restricted from venturing beyond Kangpokpi into the hills? They have stakes and livelihoods in those areas.

How ironical that Patricia does not highlight the paradox of Mizoram. The shared Zo identity sees Mizos offering hospitality to Chin and Kuki-Chin refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh. However, this same hospitality isn't extended to the Chakmas, who are concentrated in the south of Mizoram, bordering the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh to the West and the Chin and Arakan provinces of Myanmar to the East. Despite the humanitarianism and goodwill shown by Chakmas, Mizo groups like the Young Mizo Association and Mizo Zirlai Pawl have raised slogans labelling Chakmas as illegal foreigners and demanding their expulsion from Mizoram. This information comes from a report by The Centre for Governance Studies.
Such write ups from senior journalists appear opportunistic and insensitive.
Agree with her point, though, that we have not learnt the art of political dialogue.
