@andyburnham Andy, do you find it acceptable to become the new PM when the public had no say in it? A free pass to No.10.
Keir was the PM who grafted for years to get that opportunity & went through the official process. You and your coup bullied him to leave. He was the change we voted for!
What with @andyburnham and now @Nigel_Farage, these stupid bastards are costing the taxpayer millions in totally unnecessary by-elections and a mayoral election too.
Disgraceful.
Just think. If it wasn't for Burnham and the coup, Labour would be in a position to moralise today. As it is, they tarnished goods. In no position to preach....
I’ll say it again for the thickos.
Burnham would have been accepted by everyone IF he came in, served for 2 years and IF Starmer hasn’t turned it around (signs are he would) then by all means have a leadership election.
This was a PLP old boys coup enabled by Musk & media.
IF Farage resigns today, I'm even more angry that Starmer was forced out. He can handle the Tories just fine, he's shown that by winning a landslide. It was Farage that was the problem and the reason the PLP wanted AB was to beat Farage. They have acted way too hastily in this.
There are so many who are missing the point.
It's not about whether Burnham will be a good, bad or indifferent PM.
It's about the shabby, murky unethical below the radar plotting & scheming that propelled him there-plus the £5m cost to the taxpayer of 2 unnecessary by-elections.
Mid term and only trailing by 4 pts. Why the hell are the PLP kicking the democratically elected PM out after only 2 years.
The Labour Party has lost its mind. I still can’t believe how stupid it is.
Andy Burnham has spent over 25 years as a career politician. Researcher, special adviser, MP, minister, Cabinet minister, Shadow minister and Mayor. He's never built a business, never met a private sector payroll and has spent virtually his entire working life funded by the taxpayer.
How on earth has our political system reached the point where someone can go from Mayor to potentially becoming Prime Minister in a matter of weeks? What experience has he gained in that time to qualify for the highest office in the country?
In my view, we need higher standards for those seeking to govern Britain. Becoming an MP or a potential Prime Minister should require proven leadership, substantial real-world experience and a track record of delivering outside Westminster, not simply climbing the political ladder.
An engineered by election to accommodate him.
No process to elect him party leader.
No questions allowed from journalists.
No parliamentary scrutiny until September.
Something is very, very wrong about the installation of Burnham as our PM.
Hold on. Lucy Powell.
If you say we are “voting for the party” not the PM
Why are you ousting Starmer for Burnham …, “to appeal to the voters to win a GE”
If we don’t vote for the Prime Minister?
Because you know we do, don’t you.
@LBC@UKLabour@SkyNews
The way Burnham talks about doing less foreign policy, more localism, the ‘Makerfield test’, community hubs and so on, all makes me wonder if there’s a perfect job out there for him that isn’t Prime Minister. I dunno, maybe he should become the Mayor of a great city or something.
It's so true. Looking objectively at Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham, it's surely impossible not to see Burnham as a downgrade from the current PM. And a big downgrade, too. 😬
@jon_trickett I disagree. Many pensioners simply don’t need the winter fuel allowance, and rather like many parents don’t need child allowance.
We need to target help to the needy, not the well-heeled.
Have Labour MP's made a spectacular short-term mistake - panicked in the face of Farage who could be in jail, out of Parliament or completely discredited long before the next general election?
