@9chabard Q’est-ce que c’est: What is this that this is?
S’il vouz plait: If it pleases you.
Je m’appelle (Name): I call myself (Name).
Ou se trouve le…: Where does one find the…
Or even “order” being “commande” and “ask” being “demande”
Very fancy, quite medieval
Emily Wilson Odyssey translation discourse has got me thinking that people on here would have dismembered Seamus Heaney for starting his Beowulf with “So.”
@sun_girlxo It sounds like it’s trying to be very profound without saying anything profound at all. What’s the purpose of this entire passage than to continually rewrite the idea that friendship is nice because it has no practical purpose? It doesn’t even try and argue the point.
@AlexGodofsky I wonder what they think happened to the people who shared the same “British colonial civilization” and “Eng(lish) and Christian culture” but didn’t share in the “American idea” between 1775-1783
@PMinervini We even say humans faking emotions aren’t showing real emotions. The word has a meaning of being a non-faked state. Flying means flying in air. A ball can fly. A leaf can fly. A dinosaur cannot since they didn’t exist (the fossil record was falsified.) Sorry, but you’re an idiot
