Pleased to see NHSE reducing the threshold for FIT testing– from 120 micrograms of blood per gram of poo down to 80 – provided we can cope with the 35% more screening colonoscopies predicted each year. Important development https://t.co/mqTf14wZ1v
93% of American adults are in poor cardiometabolic health.
So why are our national dietary guidelines designed for the other 7%?
The Dietary Guidelines ignore all studies on weight loss, diabetes reversal, or heart disease reversal because they’re only intended for “prevention.”
Meanwhile, the food served in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes is still based on this outdated, irrelevant policy.
This is a failure of evidence-based policy; and it’s affecting the most vulnerable populations.
This wisdom is from Steve Jobs, so true!
Five Undeniable Facts of Life :

When will Northern Fail be fixed. Only 2 carriages AGAIN at Bromley Cross. 50+ left on the platform with well over 100 disappointed passengers as we passed each station with no room, wanting to go to school and work. @AndyBurnhamGM Help us, when is this going to change?
I had one pre diabetes HbA1C 10 years ago, I went on a low GI diet and have been fine since. My observation is that because people think fats are bad for you they don’t want to eat them. The healthy shelves at the supermarket are “low fat” - high sugar. I changed to 3 eggs for breakfast, no limit on Full fat Greek Yoghurt etc and make sure I get my full complement of fruit and veggies. I have also increase my protein intake to 1.5G per Kg. I test my lipid profile at least annually and it has dramatically improved and in the optimal range. I am now 13% body fat, BMI 21 and the same weight as I was when I was 22% ( I look much thinner) my visceral fat has gone from 12 to 7 and my HbA1C from 42(just the once) to around 38. I know the route cause from my DNA test and have added in more cardio and HIIT to compensate for my poor glucose metabolism. I also found a body with genetically raised blood sugar is optimised for endurance and I now run 10k before my breakfast with no issue. Without eating enough fat now I would probably loose weight. mass re-education on “It’s not fat that makes you fat” is really needed and the food industry needs to be regulated to stop messaging which has now been disproved. Thoughts?
We had an amazing night out this week with people who built Ascribe. It still has that family feel about it! Thanks so much to Tony for make this happen for us.

@AndyBurnhamGM@G_Obertron Andy , we do need your help. It needs a complete rethink. It’s great to have 4 carriages on the Blackburn to Manchester line when there were 2 but as well as the unreliability, which IS awful, the capacity is still insufficient. They also need to run more frequently.
The status-quo isn’t working. Prisons are overcrowded and reoffending is too high.
@DavidGauke is a shrewd appointment to spear-head this important review of sentencing, which will make sure no government is forced into an emergency release of prisoners ever again.

With rising mental illness in our youths, neglecting youth clubs neglects the mental health of the nation. These young people do grow up. Apart from the misery this causes it is costing us dearly as mental health services spiral out of control from the rise in demand.
If Salford Lads Club, one of the most well known youth clubs in the country is staring down the barrel of closure, it should be a canary in the coal mine.
What little is being done now isn’t working. Young people need a place to go, things to do and amazing youth workers.
As a nation, we’re scandalously failing them. Youth infrastructure needs an urgent, radical rethink.
We need to embrace the disrupters! True change in healthcare won’t come from within the system—too many vested interests. It’s time to challenge the status quo and rethink how we manage #NHS health records and wellness for all.

Did you see the #BBC report on the #Tsimane tribe? This Amazon community is defying received wisdom on ageing.
A typical 75-year-old Tsimane has the arteries of a 50-year-old American. No heart disease, obesity, or hypertension! If we can unlock their secrets, we could revolutionise health worldwide. 🌍
Of course, the Tsimane is one part of the equation. We also need to look at ourselves. Check out our Evergreen Life app to get your wellness score and contribute to research that could change the future of ageing.

🔍 When it comes to reversing Type 2 Diabetes, the headlines can be misleading. A 900-calorie liquid diet may show short-term Diabetes benefits. But it’s an approach that’s never going to be popular (it’s too stringent) or sustainable.
@lowcarbGP Dr David Unwin’s research highlights a better path: a high-fibre, low-carb diet. We need to change the narrative and focus on what truly works for long-term health!

Weight loss jab Ozempic might be grabbing the headlines. But with limited safety data and high addiction risk, shouldn’t we really be focussing on effective, safe long-term solutions?
I’d like to see the new government have a clear strategy when it comes to tackling obesity. One that goes to the root of the issue, rather than one that looks for a quick fix. We need better food regulation and education.

Have you seen the news? GPs across England will start capping the number of patients they are willing to see after the British Medical Association announced an immediate work-to-rule.
I am sure there will be fierce debates about the rights and wrongs of this action but there is no doubt our GPs have a massive workload and we currently have a capacity issue. Some of the solutions are closer to home than we sometimes like to think. My view is that we ALL have a part to play in helping to lighten this load.
That’s what Evergreen Life is all about. We exist to empower individuals to take control of their own health. Our app gives people greater knowledge and understanding about how food, fitness and happiness impact on us being well. In doing so, we can take some of the strain off the NHS.
If you can manage your diabetes, or reduce your blood pressure, and lose weight, you’ll be healthier, live longer and happier years and reduce the demand in the system.
For me, this needs to be part of the conversation about GPs’ finite resources. If we all took advantage of the wealth of research, data and technology tools that are available then the system pressures would inevitably be reduced.
Secondly, another key to supporting our GPs will come via better use of data and technology. For example, we know that some 20% of people go to GP practices have a dermatology issue. At Evergreen Life we are rolling out a service which will mean the vast majority of these people won’t need a face-to-face appointment.
