A milestone for #Azerbaijan🇦🇿 at the #UN.

In just 11 days, Azerbaijani candidates were elected to three UN human rights treaty bodies, each receiving the votes of over 2/3 of UN membership:

✅ Fuad Zarbiyev — Human Rights Committee (131 votes)
✅ Farid Adilov — Committee on the Rights of the Child (130 votes)
✅ Elgun Safarov — Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (133 votes)

🇦🇿 Azerbaijan will now be represented in 5 of the 10 UN human rights treaty bodies—ranking 2nd (together with China) globally among all UN Member States in terms of national representation.

Azerbaijan had the privilege to host another landmark global event — WUF13, the second biggest international gathering ever held in the country after COP29.

We congratulate all participants, partners, and the UN family, in particular UN-Habitat, on the successful and result-oriented WUF13.

With a record number of around 60,000 participants, WUF13 went down in history as the largest World Urban Forum ever held. The first-ever Leaders’ Segment, convened at Azerbaijan’s initiative, brought greater political momentum to the global urban agenda.

Rich and comprehensive discussions at WUF13 resulted in two important outcome documents — the Chair’s Summary and the Baku Call to Action. As a country that suffered from urbicide, culturcide, and ecocide, Azerbaijan is now rebuilding 9 cities and hundreds of villages from the ground up in Garabagh and East Zangezur. We therefore take pride in the strong recognition by the international community of Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts, highlighted as a valuable example for other post-conflict contexts around the world.

The ideas emerging from the Forum and reflected in the outcome documents — ranging from clean air and sustainable urban development to the preservation of cultural heritage and the needs of Small Island Developing States — will further enrich and guide the global urban agenda.

At a time of growing global uncertainty, WUF13 represents another meaningful contribution by Azerbaijan to multilateralism and collective action for a better future.

24 April is celebrated worldwide as the International Day for Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace established by the #UnitedNations General Assembly.

Azerbaijan remains a steadfast supporter of multilateralism.

✅In recent years, we have successfully chaired #NAM, #CICA & #BSEC, and few days ago assumed the presidency of #UNESCAP advancing dialogue & #cooperation across regions.

✅As a committed global partner, Azerbaijan has hosted #COP29 & will host, among others, #WUF13, the Annual Meeting of the #IsDB, World Environment Day & the CICA Summit this year.

✅The legacy of COP29 has further strengthened our engagement in #climate processes, including through hosting the next edition of Shamakhi Retreat of climate negotiators & UNFCCC-mandated Climate Week this September.

✅The trust by international community to Azerbaijan was also reflected in tangible outcomes at the international elections last year - Azerbaijani candidates won all 14 elections they contested.

✅We also continue to contribute institutionally, with the NAM Youth Organization (@namyouthorg), NAM Parliamentary Network & ECO Clean Energy Center decided to be headquartered in #Baku.

Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to #peace, #security, and prosperity through its active engagement in multilateral #diplomacy.

26 Fevral - Xocalı Soyqırımı Günü

34 years have passed since the Khojaly Genocide, one of the most tragic chapters in Azerbaijan's contemporary history.

On that night, 613 innocent civilians, including children, women, and elderly people, were brutally killed.

The tragedy of Khojaly remains a painful symbol of violence and ethnic hatred directed against Azerbaijanis.

Azerbaijan continues to pursue justice through international law and to advocate for accountability for those responsible.

We commemorate the victims with deep respect and solemn remembrance.
