@verizonfios had some issues with my disconnection and final bill, but thanks to Ms Jeffers from customer service got it all resolved. Kudos to her for being so great.
Managed to get myself rebooked on a later Acela train - which is the express high speed rail between Washington DC and Boston, through New York. This is currently the only high speed train in the Amtrak network, though plans are being developed to expand this.
You have to come prepared with a neck pillow, blanket and your own refreshments if you don’t want to pay for stuff from the cafe car. These items, including my handy portable water kettle made my trip more comfortable.
I took the coach class ticket on the Capitol Limited, thinking it would be a relatively easier train ride as it is through the night. The price is definitely cheap (at 10% of the sleeper), but it was definitely a tight space, and a few wailing babies.
Capitol Limited 30 which departed Chicago at 6.40pm last night was delayed through the way for over 3 hours 40 mins. Missed connection at Washington, D.C. and had to rebook for a later train. Thankfully many trains between DC and NYC.
It is, however 10% of the price of a sleeper car, at least on this route. So i’m braving it out till 1.50pm tomorrow, where I will hop on the Acela Express, Amtrak’s only high speed rail.
I’m taking Coach class today so the tweets will be fairly limited. It’s very tight and there’s not much space, there’s no observation car, and no wifi.
As exciting as the scenery was on the train, the highlight are the people who were on the train - folks making their way across the country, and the people who keep this train running.
Southwest Chief originating from LA overtook us at some point back in Iowa, so we are trailing behind them. Hitting speeds of 79mph as we hit the home run.
