@BTP are failing my disabled sister.

My sister, who is registered blind, was on the 20:14 train from Brighton to Cambridge on Saturday. She started to fall asleep with her bag by her feet and when she woke up it was gone. The bag contained her cane (so she can’t go out until she gets a new one), her house keys, and her laptop with all her university work on it — none of which was backed up. She now faces the very real prospect of not being able to finish her masters because of this.

She thinks she still had the bag at Gatwick but it was definitely gone by the time she reached Letchworth Garden City. It’s a long shot, but if anyone saw anything on the 20:14 Brighton → Cambridge service, between Gatwick and Letchworth, or has CCTV/footage from that route or the stations, please get in touch.

The theft was reported to the police and the train company — they said they’ll check CCTV, but probably won’t find anything. The police asked my sister if she could "see" any staff around to help, remember she is registered blind and had just had her cane stolen. Expecting her to locate people without her visual/mobility aid is absurd and cruel. She was not in any position to start searching for staff or navigating the carriage unassisted — she needed help brought to her, not questions that assume she can see.

Any eyewitness accounts or footage could make all the difference. If you have even the smallest piece of information, please message me.
