Protests in Haiti have created a domino effect for Haitian citizens as well as more than 100 canadian tourists! This protest is proving the massive adverse consequences that can be produced from violent protesting.

"Yellow Vest" protesters (anti immigration) were subject to a violent encounter when protesting in Edmonton. A fight broke out between two sides of the protest and police had to quickly intervene in order to separate the groups.

@ReedTremblett I think its so important for law enforcement to be educating themselves on the most effective ways to cooperate with sex workers and the laws surrounding the practice. Since legalization is a modern concept in sex work its critical to be open minded and supportive.
@victoria_curran I think programs like this are very beneficial for sex workers because they are being given options. Some women need that extra hand to dissociate themselves with the work and move forward. But others just want people fighting for their rights to work in a safe environment!
Decriminalizing sex work is necessary in order to protect the workers and their health. If "repressive policing" continues the risk of HIV and STIs in sex workers will continue to grow without the resources necessary for treatments.

While decriminalizing sex work is a step in the right direction, the consequences of new laws to criminalize "johns" seem to be risking the workers safety. Coming up with better strategy seems to be something the police force needs to look into.

@ReedTremblett Pro-active policing is a really great way to combat drug related crime by getting to the stem of the problem instead of reactive policing where they are waiting until an offender is arrested to address a drug issue
@mmp763 I think "Drug Court" is a really great intervention and prevention strategy to reduce reoffending rates. Our justice system is overflowing with non-violent drug offenders, who, with the right help and resources, would likely benefit from a program like this!

Public Safety Canada has been funding multiple programs to combat crime in high risk offenders, youth, and populations with high crime rates, specifically indigenous communities. These programs specifically target drug related crimes.

Although there are many approaches to address organized crime, suppression is a predominant strategy. Often times its too late to prevent or intervene, so reactive policing is necessary. This strategy has resulted in many successful raids #PLST4000 https://t.co/cXDsh7VaAa
@CurtisKinsella Mental health is still heavily stigmatized & I agree, in a job that is deemed as "masculine", it causes many issues to the well being of officers. It would be very helpful to have those conversations in order to make sure officers are at their very best when on the job #PLST4000

As of late, online gaming, social media and youtube are now used to exploit minors. Cybercrime is rampant & it is truly important for the RCMP to be given more modern guidelines on how to proactively police in order to prevent these occurrences.
@mmp763 I think it would be really beneficial to have courses like that available to younger children. Although, like DARE, it may not prevent children or young adults from engaging in risky activity.. it will educate them on the subject so that they are aware of what could happen!
