Let me make one thing very clear: Transphobia, homophobia, and biphobia have no place in this country. We strongly condemn this hate and its manifestations, and we stand united in support of 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians across the country – you are valid and you are valued.
Today we come together to support the young people in our province who are continuously told:
"You don't know your bodies"
"You're not old enough to understand who you are"
"You're not old enough to know about gender or sexuality"
They know their bodies. They are old enough
Education professions, School boards, Faculties of Education, Sexual Health Educators, 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations locally, provincially and nationally, the Children's Advocate all say this week's new education policies are dangerous.
There is a lot wrong with this announcement: it's anti-child, transphobic, and will will limit young people's access to comprehensive sex education which they desperately need and is based in ideology and is counter to literal decades of research.
