Today's Entomology Draws and the completed cabinet! It's so nice to see them in the clean draws, brings back the wow factor for sure! π π¦

This week I'm moving entomology out of a nasty stiff cabinet into a much nicer, modern entomology draw. Moving collections like this would usually require a lot of paper work but luckily,
These collections are unnumbered, so i only need to make notes of where they were before. π
@IpswichMuseums Thank you!π«‘π
Because of redevelopment work, our team have managed to get so much done! I have a huge backlog of amazing jobs to share so keep an eye out!
Special Thanks to the Team manager, Carrie and my coworkers Caleb, Tim, Micheal, Peter, Lottie and Bob(head of conservation)
The Glass has been cleaned and Carrie helped me carefully return the dome to its base(quite nerve-wracking!).

This is the biggest bell jar case I've worked on! Last year I made its crate out of recycled wood and now we are cleaning and conserving the birds for redisplay. #taxidermy#museums
Anouther before and after (but I've turned it so not as comparable π€π whoops). Peter and I worked from top to bottom and had to keep track of which birds had been cleaned.
This is pine marten is one of my favourite bits of taxidermy in the Ipswich museum collection. With such an adorable expression its definitely in my top 10. #taxidermy
Donβt miss the next session today at Ipswich County Library from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, where weβll continue our journey through the wonders of the natural world! #FamilyFun#HandsOnLearning#IpswichEvents

At this point, i start the long process of cleaning the glass before I can reconstruct it. We use gum tape to hold the glass together, which can be removed with warter if needed. This is painted black to match the case.
This has to be my favorite project of 2024: repainting puffins' beaks! I worked with a lot of references, and I'm happy with how they came out. It's incredible how vibrant puffins truly are.
