I have written to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, with the following recommendations to strengthen the upcoming Gram Sabha meetings on 2 October as more meaningful institutions of grassroots democracy:

• Enhance the honorarium of Village Panchayat representatives.
• Give Gram Sabhas a decisive voice on local TASMAC outlets.
• Increase awareness and public participation.
• Ensure time-bound action on Gram Sabha resolutions.
• Give citizens a greater say in the Gram Sabha agenda.
• Strengthen research and capacity-building in local governance.
• Make village development planning genuinely participatory.
• Build a stronger culture of grassroots accountability.

Gandhiji’s vision of Gram Swaraj was rooted in empowered villages and participatory democracy. The best way to honour his legacy would be for Tamil Nadu to become India’s model State for village governance.

We teach our kids one thing in school. We test them on another for college admissions!

Government’s Vineet Joshi Committee has admitted this mismatch between school education and college entrance exams.

For NEET, the first step must be abolition. Clear Tamil Nadu’s NEET Exemption Bill, still awaiting Presidential assent. Don’t reform an unfair system. End it.

For other entrance exams, the Committee has made sensible suggestions: give Class 12 marks greater weightage, offer multiple attempts through the year, and cap coaching at 2–3 hours a day.

கருப்பு வெள்ளை, மோனோ, ஸ்டீரியோ, சினிமாஸ்கோப், அவிட், டிஜிட்டல் என காலம்தோறும் பல தொழில்நுட்ப மாற்றங்களின் வழியாக வளர்ந்தது சினிமா. அதன் அத்தனை மாற்றங்களிலும் பெரும்பங்களிப்பாற்றிய ஆளுமை, பிரசாத் ஃபிலிம் லேப்பின் தொழில்நுட்பத் தலைவரான எஸ். சிவராமன் மறைந்து விட்டார்.

பிராசஸிங் மற்றும் கலர் கரெக்‌ஷன், ஒலித் தொழில்நுட்பம் ஆகியவற்றிற்கு அளப்பரி�� பங்களிப்பைச் செய்தவர். சினிமா சார்ந்த பல தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் இந்தியாவில் நடைமுறைக்கு வர காரணமானவர்.

��பிலிம் சுருளில் இருந்து திரைப்படங்கள் டிஜிட்டலுக்கு மாறியபோது சக கலைஞர்களுக்குத் தேவையான பயிற்சிகளை அளித்தார். பல முன்னணி ஒளிப்பதிவாளர்களுக்கும், இயக்குனர்களுக்கும் தொழில்நுட்ப வழிகாட்டியாகத் திகழ்ந்தார். அந்த வகையில் தன் வாழ்நாளில் ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் தோராயமாக 500 படங்களையேனும் ஒலியே இல்லாமல் பார்த்திருப்பார். அது அத்தனை சுலபமான வேலை அல்ல.

தென்னிந்திய சினிமா தனது தூண்களுள் ஒன்றை இழந்திருக்கிறது. சாதாரணத் தூண் அல்ல. கல் தூண். மிகப்பெரிய இழப்பையும் வெற்றிடத்தையும் உணர்கிறேன்.

Thanks to all who wished me well on my 67 years of cinema.

Out of those 67, I think I can only salvage about 20 years as my actual learning. The rest was going with the flow of the wastewater.

The uplifting hope is, however dark the waterway turns out to be, the wait for a confluence with the largest singular form called the collective cinema, an unchannelled sea. We are all flowing towards it - artists, audience, and all.

So I guess what I have salvaged as experience can be improved upon before people stop counting my years in this field and start looking for better numbers elsewhere.

Since the Lumière brothers’ first public film screening in December 1895, the film industry has been around for approximately 130 years and 8 months. My team reminded me that I have been around for 67 of those years, more than half of the entire history of the film industry! That is a rather extraordinary thought to take in. Yet, in my own account, I can claim only about 20 years as actual learning.

I am probably the oldest of the Gen Z in cinema. 😊🙏

நீட் நுழைவுத் தேர்வை முற்றிலுமாக ரத்து செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதும், ஒன்றிய அரசு க��ண்டுவந்துள்ள வெளிநாட்டு நிதி ஒழுங்குமுறைச் சட்ட மசோதாவைத் திரும்பப் பெற வேண்டும் என்பதுமே அத்தீர்மானங்கள்.

பா.ஜ.க. நீங்கலாக, தமிழ்நாட்டின் அனைத்து அரசியல் கட்சிகளின் ஒருமித்த ஆதரவோடும் இந்தத் தீர்மானங்கள் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டிருப்பது வரவேற்கப்பட வேண்டிய விஷயம். தமிழ்நாடு அரசுக்குப் பாராட்டுகள்.

தமிழ்நாட்டின் நலனுக்கான இந்த ஒற்றுமைப் போக்கு தொடரவேண்டும்.
