I have witnessed his courage, commitment and leadership firsthand. In 2017, when the BJP misused and abused their position of power and Gujarat Congress MLAs had to move o to Bengaluru to safeguard a crucial Rajya Sabha election; DKS was a pillar of strength to us. As I led the contigent of 44 Congress MLAs to Bengalaru from Ahmedabad; he extended every possible legal and logistical support despite immense pressure and guided me constantly.
While we were in Bengalaru, the Income Tax Department raided DKS and his brother who were staying at the same venue where we MLAs had camped. It was evident that the action was retaliation for helping us, that is the Congress. Yet, they did not bend. Later, DKS faced ED raids, imprisonment and relentless political persecution. Despite every attempt to break him, he refused to surrender his convictions or join the BJP. That is why DKS remains an inspiration. He proved that ideology is not for sale, and that political power is never worth selling one's spine or soul.
I am delighted that this brave Congress soldier has risen to lead Karnataka and become the Chief Minister. His journey reminds every Congress worker that the fight for justice, democracy and our ideology must continue, no matter what. Jaihind and ಜೈ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ, ನಮ್ಮ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ!
