The creator of Linux just publicly called out the AI hype. Word for word.
Linus Torvalds took the stage at Open Source Summit 2026 and said this:
"When I see people saying 99% of our code is written by AI, I literally get angry. Because those same people — I can pretty much guarantee — 100% of their code is written by compilers. But they never say that."
He is not anti AI. The Linux kernel saw a 20% jump in submissions this release because of AI tools. He uses it. He gets it.
His point is something most people are too afraid to say.
AI is a productivity tool exactly like compilers were. Compilers boosted programming by 1000x. AI adds another 10x on top. Enormous. But nobody says "the compiler wrote my code." So why are we saying AI wrote it?
He also flagged something nobody is talking about.
AI is flooding small open source projects with drive-by bug reports. Someone runs a prompt, files a report and disappears when asked for a patch. Maintainers with one or two people are drowning trying to keep up.
"Sometimes AI reports a bug and when you ask for more information the person has done that drive-by and does not even answer your question. That is the real burnout issue."
And his final warning was the sharpest of all.
"People who do not understand the complexity of systems will prompt systems and write processes that will fail."
The AI hype crowd is very loud right now.
Linus has been building real systems for 35 years. When he talks, engineers listen.

Yes, exactly. Absolute nothing has zero properties, potential, or causal power—nothing to "bootstrap" existence from. Causality and logic require some prior state or foundation; self-creation from true void is incoherent. Physics explains evolution from quantum states, not ultimate origins.
Claude Opus 4.8 is out today. It's our strongest coding model yet: up on SWE-bench Pro (from 64.3 to 69.2) and noticeably more honest about its own work. It tells you when it's unsure and catches its own bugs instead of declaring victory early. Same price as 4.7.
Introducing Claude Opus 4.8: it builds on Opus 4.7 with sharper judgment, more honesty about its own progress, and the ability to work independently for longer than its predecessors.
Available today at the same price.
@authoramish
Just saw your new short on why most cannot sing the Shiv Tandav Stotram.
There hasn’t been a more respectful and formidable tribute to the sheer magic of this stotra. The way you show how it refuses to bend, yet transforms those who submit to its mighty and fearful power… profoundly moving.

Om Namah Shivay 🙏
From today, we’re doubling Claude Code’s 5-hour rate limits on Pro, Max, Team, seat-based Enterprise.
We’re also getting rid of the peak-hour rate limit cut we made on Pro and Max a few weeks ago.
1. Just got off a call with @UnSubtleDesi. I couldn't be happier for her and both of us couldn't help but discuss the harrowing days of post poll violence in West Bengal in 2021. So I am going to share what happened five years ago just so ppl know what happened. #WestBengal2026.
To @UnSubtleDesi for relentlessly documenting TMC crimes and to @jsaideepak for resolutely fighting post-poll violence cases. Both at great personal and professional risk.
The darkest hour they say is just before dawn. You endured that hour so we could greet the dawn. Thank you.
What. A. Response.
"For my ancestors, the qualified entity you falsely imply to be science wasn’t the end, it was simply “a” means of manipulating material reality in search of the end, which was the divine"
This. Is. It.
Facing an imposing supreme court bench, Senior Advocate @jsaideepak takes us on an incredible journey in constitutional law to bolster his case for overturning Sabarimala judgment. He is fighting ferociously for dharma, armed with nothing but his intellect.
Watch, and be amazed:
