In 2014 when Modi became PM, India's nominal GDP per capita was $1,573, while Bangladesh's nominal GDP per capita was approximately $1,118. That is, India's was 40% higher in 2014. Modi pushed India behind.

It's the 145th birth anniversary of PG Wodehouse.
In one of the many absurd bits of trivia that make up my professional and personal life, I realised that Sachin Tendulkar doesn't have a single innings of 145 in international cricket. He doesn't even have an innings where he's faced 145 balls.
He has one knock where he has batted for 145 minutes: That was 98 off 75 balls vs Pakistan in Centurion, World Cup 2003. One of his most iconic innings of all time.
If he had to have just one association with 145, that's not a bad one, eh?
To all those whose lives Wodehouse has affected, he's always called The Master.
I needed to find a cricketing connect between his 145th birthday and the other master who shaped part of my childhood. It gives me unreasonable joy to find one that ties so specifically - within this absurdity of finding a connect at all - to such an indelible cricketing memory.

This is why you should be able to squat 150kg at least because what if a baby elephant wants to ride your back and you don't have enough strength to pick it up. Couldn't be me.

Why should a young reporter know who Jean Dreze is? If he/she doesn’t know & asks him, it is what a reporter is supposed to do. Ask. Just coz he was in NAC during UPA (years ago) doesn’t make him a recognisable face to young reporters. The know it all ‘seniors’ need to chill

D.B. Deodhar, fondly called as the Grand old man of Indian cricket, was born in 1892. Tendulkar rose in the 1980s. Surely, no one could’ve shared a field with both?
Enter Madhav Apte, born on 5th October, 1932. Played just 7 Tests, but left a story longer than most 100 test careers.
In 1953, Apte toured the West Indies, scored 460 runs at an average of 51, and looked set for greatness. India said, “Thanks, but no thanks.” He was never picked again.
Why? Decades later, Apte spilled the beans. Selector Lala Amarnath allegedly asked his dad for shares in their family’s Kohinoor Mills. His dad said no. And in return, Amarnath said no for Junior Apte.
But Apte didn't need the Indian team to stay legendary. He played so many leagues. He played alongside Deodhar, Duleepsinhji, Mankad, Umrigar, Gavaskar, and faced a 14 year old Tendulkar when he was 55.
He played Mumbai’s rainy Kanga League till he was 71. Even while living in Malaysia, managing a sugar factory, he'd check the weather, fly in to play, and if it rained? Just packed his kit and flew back.
Madhav Apte was a cricket library. He played with Zaheer Khan as well as some Pre independence pacers. Apte passed away in 2019.
Birth Anniversary of Great, Madhav Apte (5th October).
