A French woman Sylvie Yasmina met a Pakistani man in Australia and married him in 2003.

One day, the Pakistani told her that he would show them his ancestral village and took her and their two children to Bara, a remote town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan in 2014.

Once she and their children landed in Pakistan, the Pakistani showed his true colours.
Yasmina was confined to a dilapidated room, prevented from meeting any one and subjected to physical abuse for more than eleven years.

Yasmina told investigators that what began as a marriage eventually turned into years of isolation, abuse and confinement. She alleged that after moving from Australia to Pakistan in 2014, her husband effectively imprisoned the family, preventing them from interacting with the outside world.

Yasmina was isolated from others: the two older children missed schooling, and the three younger children—born in Pakistan—were never enrolled.

They were kept in a dilapidated house and he would thrash her often. One of her sons escaped from the house and lodged a police complaint. The police rescued Sylvie Yasmina and her five children and arrested the man.

Police said they found Yasmina and her children in a cramped and "extremely dilapidated" room, with bruises on their bodies.
