Israel has attacked Rafah, situated in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Rafah is home to approximately 1.9 million Palestinians, representing around 85% of Gaza’s population. It has been recognised by the United Nations as a refuge city. It lies adjacent to the Egypt border and was declared a ‘safe zone’ by Israel in the previous December.
