The bad guy probably ensured the video was saved for posterity by his own actions. These cameras continually loop record about 20-45 seconds of video overwriting the last loop unless motion is detected or power is removed. So if he damaged the camera, the last loop stayed within the camera's onboard memory. The video was not in some back-end system in the cloud, it was in the camera.
