On a cold day some autistic people walk about in shorts whilst others wear huge layers.
The reason are complex and this is something I explain in my Practical Guide to autism
A young person with complex trauma, their nervous system becomes stuck in a state of fight or flight & wired into hyperarousal. Struggling to manage emotions & trouble emotionally regulating ,anxious & on edge waiting for the next bad thing to happen. 🧠🌱
It is important to understand how a child's brain develops through trauma & adversity & how we support them & meet their needs."It's not about changing the behaviour,it's about healing the brain. Once you heal the brain, then you will see changes in behaviour."🧠🌱
Some of our young people have lived through hell & horrors you can't even imagine.
Get to know them & they will want you to hear their stories so they can learn, grow & heal.
An empathetic witness & a listening ear is the antidote to trauma.🧠🌱
Attendance Matters!
But so do children…
Perhaps you've seen a similar poster?
Well, I propose a few changes; if we're going to award attendance I think we should at least be honest about what we're awarding.
