Everyone Is Buying the Dip in smallcaps. But Should They?

Smallcap 100 vs Smallcap100/Nifty50 Ratio 📉

Look at the ratio chart. The yellow and blue vertical lines mark two previous instances where the ratio peaked and then fell until the blue line. On both occasions, the Smallcap 100 index corrected nearly 70% from its peak. That’s madness.

But I’m not saying a 70% crash is coming in 2026. The ratio is still holding a steep uptrend line, with support roughly 18% below its peak. Around 8% of the correction is already done here but 10% more downside is pending on ratio chart.

My view? The Smallcap 100 could see another 5–7% downside before the index and the ratio potentially find support together.

What concerns me is the sentiment. People on my timeline have taken a hit, but many are still aggressively buying this dip. I find it hard to believe everyone can be right at the same time.

I’ll be happy to be proven wrong. But personally, I’d rather wait for the ratio to approach support and show signs of stabilisation than rush into buying.

Met a person yesterday whom I had met around 11 months ago.

Back then, when gold was near $5,500, he was very confident it would go much higher. One of his associates in WhatsApp group was telling everyone, “Keep buying gold as much as you can, $6,000–7,000 toh pakka jayega.”

Yesterday, with gold near $4,000, the conversation with him was completely different. He was telling people are saying gold could lose its real value and crash badly in 2027.

Same person, same gold, bas price badal gaya 10 mahine me toh opinion bhi badal gaya. 😂

Honestly, human psychology is so fascinating. When prices rise, everyone finds reasons to be bullish. When they fall, suddenly everyone starts seeing danger.

Market se zyada interesting toh logon ki psychology hai. 🧠
