EDI isn’t glamorous—but that’s exactly the point. In this episode, William sits down with Grace Sharkey from @orderful to demystify electronic data interchange (EDI): what it is, why it still powers retail in 2025, and how growers can start simple and scale confidently.
They unpack what happens behind the scenes when your data flows reliably (and predictably), why “boring” is the best compliment your EDI can get, and how modern platforms are making it easier than ever to connect with major retailers.

iQ Grower 1.32 is here — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲
We’re building a community of growers who believe in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in horticulture — together. Every feature comes from real conversations with real growers dealing with real problems. You speak, we listen, we build. And the result? Tools that actually work the way growers think.
Version 1.32 introduces three powerful upgrades that bring clarity, flexibility, and control into sharper focus:
𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁: Planned production batches now utilize the Grower Forecast and will automatically show up on availability by grade. As you produce the crop you will be able to see the end grade output compared to your grower forecast and fine tune next seasons Grower Forecast allowing sales teams to start selling by grade from the moment a crop is planned.
𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 & 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Phases allow you to track your plants transitions between natural growth phases during the shipping window. Plants grow, bloom, and move through phases on their own timeline, dependent on weather and many factors. Phases are the mechanism we're using to drive visibility into readiness. Readiness functionality helps your team see at a glance what’s at its peak, what’s coming on, and what’s past its prime and no longer available. Powerful functionality for cycle growers & cut flower growers, but also for nursery growers who want to ship plants to customers at a particular readiness phase!
𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Remember spending hours moving demand (orders and shipments) around in spreadsheets when everything changed or a grade was short? This was followed by hours of manual order and shipment updates in the ERP... No more. With Mass Demand Allocation, you can now view and reallocate demand from a single screen — fast, visual, and intuitive. This screen layers in the Grower Forecast and Readiness functionality to allow growers to rapidly shift supply and demand based on clear insight into what's unfolding in the weeks ahead.
The foundations of the functionality released in 1.32 have been building over the past several releases, and how it transforms massive complexity is magical!
𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟭.𝟯𝟮:
Better Pull Lists, smarter order and shipment imports, support for the new (and very modern) Salesforce UI, and various other fixes.
Thank you to the community, both internal and external, as well as our incredibly talented development team worldwide, who helped shape and build release 1.32. You’re the reason Aster is turning chaos into clarity!

We’re proud to welcome 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿—a truly distinctive floral company—to the Aster Software community! 🌷
Based in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Bloomaker specializes in premium 𝗧𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀 and 𝗚𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀, imported from Peru and Holland, then artfully transformed into long-lasting, eye-catching consumer experiences. They don’t just sell bulbs—they 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 that are as creative as they are elegant, delivering beauty, convenience, and longevity into homes across North America and beyond.
Behind that artistry lies real operational complexity. Bloomaker’s sales model revolves around 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝘀—pre-defined combinations of bulbs, vessels, and media that come together during final packing. These kits must be assembled at the last minute, making 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 absolutely mission-critical. The Sales team needs to see, in real-time, not just the number of kits available—but whether 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 are on hand and ready to ship.
Even more important? 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 “𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽.” In a world of highly perishable, timing-sensitive products, raw inventory numbers don’t cut it. Tulips and Amaryllis must be in optimal condition to leave the greenhouse. Thanks to iQ Grower’s 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, Bloomaker can now distinguish between general inventory and what’s ready to go today—giving them the clarity they need to deliver on time, with confidence.
By implementing 𝗶𝗤 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗥𝗣, Bloomaker is making a strategic investment in a 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 that combines deep 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 with the power of integrated CRM. It’s a perfect match for a company so committed to excellence at every step of the floral journey.
We’re thrilled to be building alongside this incredible team. Welcome, Bloomaker! 🌷
𝗶𝗤 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗥𝗣 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲!
We’re proud to announce that 𝗶𝗤 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗥𝗣 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 and is now live on the AppExchange!
This moment is more than a milestone—it’s a 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲. The Salesforce Security Review is no small feat. It’s intense, comprehensive, and designed to ensure enterprise-grade standards. Passing it validates our architecture, discipline, and obsession with quality.
Today we celebrate our incredible 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 — a truly global effort spanning Canada, The Netherlands, and India. They’ve tackled countless security tests and poured in many hours to make this a reality. We’re proud of our product — and even prouder of the people behind it.
There really is no shortcut to trust and this partnership with @Salesforce and the AppExchange ecosystem solidifies our foundation — and with this success, the full horsepower of our team can now be focused on what we love most:
𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿!!

“𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁?”
That’s the question I keep asking — and half the time, I’m waiting on someone in the office to get back to me.
By the time I finally hear back…
📦 The customer has moved on.
💸 We lost the sale.
😤 I’m left thinking, “There has to be a better way.”
Guessing at what’s available to sell shouldn’t take a spreadsheet, a scavenger hunt, and a prayer.
And yet — every week, we miss opportunities because I can’t get a straight answer fast enough.
But now?
iQ Grower ERP solves this pain completely.
Its real-time Available to Promise (ATP) dashboard pulls together every factor — orders, production, purchase orders, shrink, deliveries, internal needs — and gives me a clear, up-to-the-minute answer.
No more waiting.
No more guessing.
No more “we’ll get back to you.”
Now I can say yes (or no) with confidence, on the spot.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆!
With an exclusive partnership with Proven Winners and their standout leafjoy® line, The Plant Company has established itself as a force in the houseplant market—combining quality, consistency, and a deep focus on consumer experience.
Led by Jason van Wingerden and Frank Paul, The Plant Company’s leadership team brings a lifetime of horticultural experience and a rare ability to motivate, delegate, and scale with clarity. Their rapid growth isn’t by chance—it’s the result of sharp strategy and a commitment to excellence across the board.
Their decision to implement iQ Grower ERP is a strategic one: a modern, future-proof platform built directly on Salesforce offers a deep, unified experience between CRM and ERP—designed specifically for the complexities of horticulture, not adapted from manufacturing. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵, 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲-𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝘀𝘀, making iQ Grower ERP the clear and obvious choice.
Equally important, their team recognized the value of working with a partner who 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. At Aster, we’re not just delivering software—we’re growers working alongside the industry’s best and learning from each other as 𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻.
We’re honored to have The Plant Company join the Aster Software community, and we’re excited to innovate together as they continue to lead the way in quality, customer joy, and industry innovation.
