I've been thinking a lot about 'being a paramedic' and how it can become a large part of your identity. It is a role I am proud of and fiercely promote (and apparently quite good at) but it is also a role that has irrevocably changed me and not always for the better. 🧵1/9

British Paramedicine is 53 yrs old today.

This is Prof Douglas Chamberlain who created the role of Paramedic in the UK.

6 Ambulance Men from Brighton were chosen to undergo cardiac & emergency training, they began treating patients on 4 March 1971.
The Paramedic was born. 💚

Since moving to the Midlands, I've taken on a couple Night Time Economy Shifts with @stjohnambulance. Treating at night was an interesting experience and definitely a stepping stone for upcoming night shifts with my Paramedic Science Degree.

Absolute dream come true! To be honest, I didn't set out on a medical career, quite the opposite, actually. It was a last minute change of heart and a long shot. With lots of hard work and dedication I've managed to get here and I cannot wait to see the experiences ahead!

Units Awards Night tonight at @BathSJA, safe to say I was very happy with mine as with brute honesty, I do seem to be a patient magnet on events!🤣 Well done to everyone else with their awards too!

Wera met our cadets & learnt the importance of CPR & public access defibrillators; explored an ambulance & CRU bike; and found out about our fundraising & event first aid cover.

Had a very wet and busy weekend at @BristolHarbFest, whether that being treating patients or refining skills and practices, we were kept busy. Very grateful for all the helpful and friendly volunteers I've worked with who made the event very special!

Participated in 3 days of @Bristol_Sounds and thoroughly enjoyed it. The event itself was incredible, and the experience I have gained has been invaluable! I hope to participate in more big events like this one:)

Throughly enjoyed today at the #Coronation . I have met and worked with some amazing and friendly volunteers to bring First Aid cover to the public. Whilst also helping out Barney with his travels and being his personal photographer was an absolute pleasure!
