It was my first AbSciCon and... wow. What an incredible experience. It was so wonderful to see all of the work that's coming out now. The ability to hear about agnostic biosignatures, analog studies, proposed future NASA missions, and astrovirology all in one day still (1/2)
@toomanyspectra Literally there are so many WAY COOLER sinister answers to it than this that they could've picked, but nah we had to go with the "life is ontologically selfish and destructive"
Like I'm sorry NO??? Billionaires just kinda suck a lot
@sanjanacurtis And then being told that I'm not working hard enough or I need to apply myself more and take on more responsibility. Like ?? I am constantly burnt out because I need to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. I don't know what else I can do, literally 🙃
@sanjanacurtis This is half of why I'm quitting academia! I can't afford to live on my own. No support network, so everything falls to me. 2 jobs on the side on top of the 40 hr grad work week, cooking, cleaning, etc. And I'm not paid a living wage. And I'm a white masc presenting person
*phone rings in middle of the night*
me: *answers phone* hey this is josh with toxicology
doc: hey josh we have a kid here with cyanosis, blue tongue, blue lips—uhh hold on a sec *whispering in background*
me: ?
doc: nvm they had a blue jolly rancher bye
@hankgreen Please Hank as a long time fan of yours and because this is topically relevant I need you to listen to this song (it's the cancer-pissing anthem)

@brownandbella Wow, all of the men being like "stop grouping us together" or "not us" are you serious right now?? If one of the potential outcomes of saying no to a man is literally DYING, no matter how allegedly small that chance may be, don't you think that's a good reason to not say no? Fr
i don’t hate grad school. i hate being so financially unstable that i wake up in the middle of the night having panic attacks over it. i hate that every time i swipe my card i feel claustrophobic because i know i can’t afford whatever i’m buying. it’s brain damaging
@cosmobiologist This one is a little obvious but I'm gonna say it anyway! Lithotrophy of some kind, and phototrophy of some kind!
Also I'm just a big fan of trees. I bet we find tree analogues somewhere 🙂
Initiating a “debate” about the rights and lives of oppressed and marginalized people to prove to everyone that you’re a supremely rational impartial being focused only on The Science is, in fact, astonishingly cruel.
@MoistCr1TiKaL People can agree it's a good thing that Mr. Beast saved orphans from the orphan crushing machine, but why can't we ask a) why is there an orphan crushing machine to begin with, and b) why does saving the orphans have to be viral "content"?
