Success! Telemetry reestablished, spacecraft currently over southern Africa. It will get a gravitational assist from #Mars in Feb '25 and another from Earth in Dec '26. It will take almost 6 years before it arrives at #Europa and we get the first data!

@morgannike49 @jamieacarter @SkyandTelescope Ugh, I feel that so much. @AstroMCC's observing lab class can barely function anymore b/c every time we find a "lesser of the evils" spot, they mow everything down, put up a fence, & build multi-story buildings. Our community also wants the monthly star parties back, but... 🫤

What's going on here? Power washing?

No, that's too harsh for delicate telescope mirrors! Our staff are actually using liquid carbon dioxide in a process called "CO2 snow cleaning," which removes debris without damage or residue.
