Gorgeous weather, huge crowd - over 1000 glasses & viewers handed out! Major props to our @AstroMCC students! They did an amazing job making sure folks viewed safely and tending to 2 Sunspotters, 4 telescopes, a sun funnel, and more!
Another stellar event in the books! Thanks to everyone who joined us – the turnout was astronomical! Huge thanks to our Astronomy Department for hosting an unforgettable solar eclipse viewing experience. More 📸 > https://t.co/d3zWwTXFWb

IT & Linux/UNIX experience? Want to work at one of the coolest "offices" on Earth? IceCube collaboration looking for two "winterovers" for next year.
Success! Telemetry reestablished, spacecraft currently over southern Africa. It will get a gravitational assist from #Mars in Feb '25 and another from Earth in Dec '26. It will take almost 6 years before it arrives at #Europa and we get the first data!

@morgannike49@jamieacarter@SkyandTelescope Ugh, I feel that so much. @AstroMCC's observing lab class can barely function anymore b/c every time we find a "lesser of the evils" spot, they mow everything down, put up a fence, & build multi-story buildings. Our community also wants the monthly star parties back, but... 🫤
Though currently lost in Sun's glare, #Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is transitioning into the evening sky. Should just be visible after sunset on 12th. Might need binocs but many expect it to reach naked-eye visibility. @jamieacarter's how/when/where to see it:

Scrub a dub, time to clean our mirrors 🫧
What's going on here? Power washing?
No, that's too harsh for delicate telescope mirrors! Our staff are actually using liquid carbon dioxide in a process called "CO2 snow cleaning," which removes debris without damage or residue.
Help our NASA @chandraxray imaging Research!
Our new study explores the viewing experience of astronomical data for people with color blindness: You do not need to have color blindness to participate, though please also share w/colleagues & friends who do https://t.co/5RUXFQfDru
Please help if you can! Need as many responses as possible.
Studied (or taught) at an institution of higher learning (anywhere)? Parent of someone who has? We need your responses! Please and thank you!
Have you studied (or taught) at an institution of higher education? Parent of someone who has? Please take ~15 minutes of your time to help a friend doing doctoral research. It's often difficult to get a return rate that gives meaningful conclusions so please help and pass it on.
Debuting during #Artemis IV, the payload adapter will connect the SLS rocket to @NASA_Orion as part of the Block 1B configuration.

Kei Koizumi, Principal Deputy Director for Policy @WHOSTP (front row, far right), with the @AAS_Policy Congressional Visits Day delegation yesterday on the east stairs of the Eisenhower building (OEOB, EEOB, SWAN Bldg), across from the @WhiteHouse's West Wing.
In this episode of "RicaDink Goes to Washington"...
Rica visits the @WHOSTP with the @AAS_Policy Congressional Visits Day delegation and struggles to reconcile her interest in science policy with her general loathing of politics.
The satcon forecast is depressing: doubling time for number of satellites is now only about one year. Much more than astronomy at stake now.
@AAAS_STPF fellow @jsreding from @nsf speaking to @AAS_Policy CVD cohort. Data from @planet4589.
👀👀 We’ve seen so many great shots of the actual eclipse, but this is wild. Just before the eclipse reached its maximum, downtown Chicago looked like a sandy beach along the Gulf of Mexico. #EclipseSolar2024#Eclipse2024
Do you have colorful sunset photos due to an atmosphere replete with volcanic ash? You can help scientists better understand volcanic events by contributing them to a citizen science project! Such interesting work and a great thread, @JohnBarentine. Thank you!
