Borno Police intercept large consignment of illicit substances, arrest suspect
The Borno State Police Command has announced the interception of a large consignment of illicit substances and the arrest of a suspect during an intelligence-led operation in Maiduguri.
According to a press release signed by Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, operatives of the Command’s X-Squad acted on credible intelligence on June 26, 2026, and intercepted an Isuzu Bedford pick-up vehicle along the Baga Road bypass.
A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of 55 sacks containing 60ml bottles of an illicit substance known as “Gumm.”
Preliminary investigations suggest the substances were being transported to Ngamboru Ngala LGA, with the intention of smuggling them across international borders.
One suspect, identified as Babagana Modu (51), the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and reportedly stated he had been hired to transport the consignment. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the operation.
