Me during basketball season: “omg I gotta follow all these basketball pundits to hear what’s going on in the league!”
Me during basketball off-season: “omg I gotta unfollow all these basketball pundits who won’t stop talking about what’s going on in the league.”
We need to have a serious reckoning with why the Penske-owned trades are pushing this pro-AI propaganda. Fawning coverage of a gen-AI short film is not normal. You can’t claim to impartially cover an industry while also attempting to delegitimize the artists responsible for it.
This is true, and I proposed we pivot by making it a comedy about two black cops who bring down a cabal of racist corrupt cops inside the force and the studio said absolutely not and shut the whole thing down hahahaha. Anyways ACAB.
Key and Peele’s plan to reboot “Police Academy” was canceled after Michael Brown was killed by police in Ferguson:
"Years ago, my partner and I got hired to rewrite ‘Police Academy’ for New Line Cinema,” Ike Barinholtz said. “I don’t even know if he’s still alive, we might have to cut this, but the guy who created the original ‘Police Academy’ came with the deal. So they said to us, ‘We want you guys to write it and make it dirty, rated R, modern.’"
"So when we’re doing the pitch, my partner was like, ‘So we have this scene and that’s when we see all the original cast. We see Hightower, we see Tackleberry, we have…’ — he’s just naming all dead people. And I was like…he didn’t even do research to find out who’s still alive in the cast. He was not happy. But more importantly, as we were developing the film, Mike Brown got shot and all of a sudden, and we were making the movie for Key and Peele, and people were like, ‘We’re not making a cop comedy right now where we’re having these two hilarious Black actors play police officers.’”

Key & Peele was edited by incredible artists who spent years developing their craft. Equating their hard work with an AI agent in any way is offensive and wrong, and I'm sure they would not support the claims in this video.
I do not appreciate this ad claiming the editors of Key & Peele in any way support this AI product. This is a misrepresentation of the role of one of the participants of the video and I have to assume it was done intentionally to give the product more legitimacy.
We rebuilt Premiere Pro from scratch for AI agents.
Not a toy that generates clips. A real editor that watches footage, understands what happened, and makes cuts professional editors actually respect.
So we gave it to editors behind Key & Peele, Beast Games, and George Janko.
Their reactions are in the video.
Examples below 🧵
@thetomkim@tryselects This post misrepresents Stevie's role on Key & Peele. They were not a full time editor on the show, but rather an assistant, and received an "additional editor" credit on one episode. Please amend this claim accordingly.
Huh, feel like not so long ago we had a whole labor strike trying to prevent stuff like this. Anyone remember that? Ah well, I'm sure they'll do this respectfully to the artists who actually made those franchises they own, right?
Lionsgate has taken an equity stake in the generative AI video company Runway and plans to pull from its existing catalogue of franchises for an AI short-form series.

One would think that the mishandling of America’s 250th birthday to the point where now it’ll be yet another hours-long self-indulgent “rally” for the diaper filler in chief might actually inspire a bit of outrage from the two American flags in every twitter bio set.
Marty do u remember the storyboards u used to draw when u were 11, just a kid with asthma aspiring to be a filmmaker? no amount of generative ai could even dare to replicate let alone create this. u went through 6 decades of ur career w/o using any, and u still can. disappointing
NEW: Tina Peters, newly freed by Colorado Gov Jared Polis (D), begins her MAGA media tour by telling Steve Bannon that Democrats are cheating on elections and she was imprisoned as retribution for exposing voting machines that flip votes.
Yes!!!
Creativity is being stifled because the vast majority of oversight decisions are being managed by boomers and, at best, Gen X studio execs. Movies are being filtered through the lens of people who grew up in a monoculture that is dead. It’s time for some churn at the top.
You know what Hollywood needs even more badly than it needs a fresh new crop of 20-something directors? A fresh new crop of 20-something studio executives.
