So now the ex-army mullah brigade wants to discuss princely states. Convenient. But before dragging Hyderabad and Junagadh into the room, try understanding the basic argument. This isn’t about religious arithmetic or geography, it’s about your selective morality.

You scream about ‘the will of the people’ when it suits you, and forget it when it doesn’t. You were ready to embrace Muslim rulers acceding to you, no matter how Hindu their subjects were, but cried foul when a Hindu ruler made a legal choice not in your favour. You wanted to rewrite the rules of accession mid-game, depending on who was kneeling before you and who wasn’t.

That was desperation dressed up as doctrine.

In 1947, the principle of accession rested on the ruler’s decision, not the religious demography of the state. You honoured that principle when it gave you territory. You discarded it when it didn’t.

And while you sermonise about the ‘majority population’ in Kashmir, maybe look inward, you had no problem annexing princely states with Hindu majorities. No concern for ‘popular sentiment’ then. Just the thrill of conquest.

The hypocrisy isn’t subtle. It screams through your history books. A country carved out in the name of Islam couldn’t even provide safe space for Hindus and Sikhs who stayed behind. Their blood still marks the soil of Punjab and Sindh.

And yet you accuse others of injustice?

In 1947, Muslims got a whole country, a violent homeland built on religious separatism. Hindus didn’t owe you peace, didn’t owe you patience, didn’t owe you anything. Yet Muslims continue to flourish in India, while Hindus from Pakistan are lining up to escape to India and Sikhs are almost extinct.

The truth is simple. You lost Kashmir the day you chose tribal terror over treaty. The day you sent savages instead of diplomats. The day you violated the Standstill Agreement. And ever since, your entire narrative has been built on blame, not introspection.

So spare us the lectures on legitimacy. A state that butchered its minorities and betrayed every princely norm has no business moralising over accession.
