🚨 Concussion Recovery: It’s More Than Just Rest!
New research from the NBA shows that athletes who suffer a concussion are 11.3 times more likely to sustain a musculoskeletal (MSK) injury within 90 days of returning to play. These injuries—most commonly to the ankles, knees, and legs—are likely due to lingering balance and reaction time deficits.
🔹 Performance Doesn’t Drop: Players return with similar stats, but their risk of further injury skyrockets.
🔹 Rehab Matters: A proper return-to-play (RTP) plan should focus on neuromuscular control, postural stability, and movement mechanics to reduce injury risk.
🔹 Who Should Oversee Concussion Care? Athletic trainers, neuro-based physical therapists, and fellowship-trained sports medicine physicians should be leading concussion management.
🏆 Athletes & Parents: Don’t settle for outdated concussion care! Make sure your recovery plan includes more than just rest—it should prepare you for a safe, strong return to play.

Here’s how you can support athletic trainers and show appreciation for everything they do:
1. Say Thank You – A simple “thank you” goes a long way. Take time to recognize the athletic trainers in your life.
2. Spread Awareness – Share posts, stories, and facts about what athletic trainers do to help educate others.
3. Advocate for AT Coverage – Support policies and initiatives that ensure schools, teams, and workplaces have access to qualified athletic trainers.
4. Recognize Their Expertise – Remember, athletic trainers are healthcare professionals, not just “trainers.” They are educated, certified, and crucial to injury prevention and recovery.
5. Support Safe Sports – Advocate for proper safety protocols and resources for athletic trainers at all levels of play, from youth leagues to professional teams.
6. Celebrate Their Work – Nominate an athletic trainer for an award, write a note of appreciation, or even just bring them a coffee to say thanks!
Athletic trainers do so much to keep athletes healthy and active — let’s show up for them this month.

@TylerTriggs@CaitrATC@NATA_SSATC@NATA1950@CaitrATC i’m not excusing slow response time for NATA, but please know that they have let go multiple staff members to restructure and several things have likely slipped through the cracks or taking forever. Can you send me a direct message so we can chat more?
💚 March is National Athletic Training Month, and we want to give a big shoutout to our amazing Smithville School District athletic trainer! Thank you for all you do behind the scenes to support our students!
@talklisteninsp@afrancATadvocat@NATA_SSATC I have found it helps me keep track as well. I know I am missing several things but try to add in when I remember. It also helps to have records when nominated for an award and they ask questions like list every year you’ve been to NATA etc
This year I’m only giving my time and mental energy to people who respect me, trust me, listen to me, and actually want my help. Just letting y’all know in advance
