we have unfunded students like myself and we are owing the institution a huge amount of money and we are told we can only be unblocked from the system as soon as we decrease our debt to be less than R10 000.

Our university is in debt.

asizokwazi ungafundi kulo nyaka bazothini abantwana abakhulayo who say education is the key to open all doors ,but that door is being closed in our faces, the same door is used as a barrier to exclude us from obtaining that education.

if more than thousands of students will not be studying this year due to lack of funding what role will they play in our system ,some will end up giving up thinking the system is built for those who have ,and those who don’t have are not catered for they are left to stay poor.

Companies can try to find a common ground to assist us, we can intern for free to repay our debts. It is a desperate time for us students as we can see that no one is willing to assist us at this point and time is not on our side.

Most of these students come from remote backgrounds in the Eastern Cape where there is no money placed aside for them when they go to tertiary & however NSFAS becomes the only hope for them to study and obtain meal allowances which end up helping as well as their families.

The university of Fort Hare is an institution unlike many other learning institutions which mostly consists of students who come from low income households ,meaning most students rely on NSFAS for funding.

This financial exclusion is causing a lot of mental health problems, I see it with myself. I am afraid we are going to sink into depression and yet experience another rise in students killing themselves.

Half the students are now forced go back home to the rural areas with dreams that have been diminished due to no funding ,this exclusion is hitting home to many students meaning we would not study until we can afford and that means we will never finish our degrees

Mr President this exclusion feels like we still under apartheid regime,formally yes it has ended but we find ourselves experiencing apartheid in a different manner which is making it impossible for black students to acquire an education due to lack of funding.

I am pleading to the whole of South Africa to assist Fort Hare students. I am pleading that the country donates to our Fund account. I am pleading Mr President that you prioritize this matter and help us get funders towards our education.

I have brothers and sisters who are graduates from the same institution with honors but it’s been more than 8years and they are not working. One in engineering and another in information systems. I’m not ready to give up on my education or my dreams to become an advocate of the

I write to you Mr President in attempt to find a solution to our current dilemma as the students of the University Of Fort Hare. Mr President at this very moment our university is in a crisis where thousands of senior students are excluded from the system due to finances.
