Can a race finish under the safety car?

Turns out, yes.

Why didn’t Mercedes pit Lewis Hamilton under the safety car?

Ferrari did and it cost him a position, proving Mercedes made the right call that day.

Yeah, they followed the rules this time. But, the race must have resumed for the last lap and the safety car was announced to be ending, but they reverted it back to end the race under the safety car for some unknown reason. Damn!

Funny how only the backmarkers between Lewis and Max were unlapped and the race was resumed for just a lap then, while it was damn obvious that the race would end under safety car. Now, they do the exact opposite, where it was expected that the race would resume, but it didn't!
