Great to meet with the Anti‑Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit today and the lobby day on Earned Settlement. I share their concerns about the government’s plans, including retrospective rules, and spoke about them at the Westminster Hall debate the other week. There must be no retrospective changes for people who are already living lawfully in the UK and I will continue to press the government on this.
If the government have apparently started listening, it's long overdue; let's compromise on a few more of these proposals while we are at it, shall we?

(1) This week, our Changemakers spoke at the @UKAntiSlavey Lived Experience Advisory Panel. They spoke about the impacts of waiting & not being able to work and the importance of parent/child reunions in safeguarding children & supporting survivor recovery.
Today, I brought together representatives from lived experience advisory panels across the UK.
This isn’t just another meeting.
It’s about making sure lived experience shapes what happens next.
Survivor insight isn’t optional - it’s fundamental to improving how we prevent exploitation and support victims.
#SurvivorVoices #ModernSlavery #LivedExperience
(1) This means:
➡️addressing the consequences of prolonged waiting.
➡️ ensuring survivors have the right to work, so they can rebuild independence and dignity.
➡️recognising family reunification as a key part of recovery and long-term protection

Yesterday, one of our Changemakers co-led our training session on the importance of quality legal representation. Quality representation isn't just about technical expertise; it's about trust and trauma-informed practice. Learn more about our training here https://t.co/EXDwO2iI8e
We have joined Together Alliance to stand against racism. We won't let fear and hate divide us. March with us in Central London on the 28th of March at 12 pm and stand up against the far-right. #TogetherAlliance#28March#Together
(3) This is a deliberate system that enables exploitation while shielding the company from responsibility. Workers are left exposed, their rights are undermined, and UK workers are undercut. Read more about this here: https://t.co/n93Yqzg6Z3
(1) Our client is bringing legal action against P&O Cruises' parent company, Carnival Corporation, after being unlawfully dismissed shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer. This decision halted her treatment, putting her life at risk. https://t.co/n93Yqzg6Z3
(2) This case exposes a broader strategy designed to avoid accountability. P&O’s parent company, Carnival Corporation, established a separate employment business in Bermuda to hire crew members, sidestepping the protections demanded by UK employment law. https://t.co/n93Yqzg6Z3
(2) Our government has now suspended refugee family reunions. This #MothersDay, we urge them to reverse policies which have denied survivors the chance to reunite safely with their children.
(1) This is the reality for many mothers and survivors of #ModernSlavery in the UK. This #MothersDay, our thoughts are with the mothers who are facing the ongoing pain of being separated from their children.
(2) The government must:
➡️Carry out a full impact assessment to show the impact of these changes
➡️Have a debate and vote on these changes
➡️Scrap the retrospective application of these changes so that it does not apply to those who are already on their path to settlement’
(1) Yesterday, hundreds of us attended parliament for a mass lobby against the government's new #earnedsettlement proposal. These proposals will have a disproportionate impact on survivors of trafficking and modern slavery, and even increase the risk of re-trafficking.
@gcnchambers@CloistersLaw (2) Thank you also to everyone who attended yesterday’s event, and for sharing our commitment to improving access to compensation for survivors.
