More potato chitting this week. This time, our maincrop variety: 'maris piper'. The crop will be harvested in early Sept and used in our @KitchenTeaching. There is a rumour of a traditional East End pie and mash. Yum. @ManorfieldPri#schoolgardening#fieldtofork
Two of our keenest Year 6 gardeners gave the lemon balm a 'haircut' today to get rid of the leaves and stems that were killed off by the snowy weather a few weeks ago. We can already see new growth now that warmer Spring weather has arrived! @ManorfieldPri
Year 3 are learning about the functions of plant parts. Today we learned why flowers are important for insect populations; the more flowers there are, the more nectar (food) is available. We sowed poppies and cosmos seeds. We can't wait to see these flowers grow @ManorfieldPri
The mint root cuttings taken and planted by Year 5/6 are coming on. These will be used by the children in our @KitchenTeaching and to add extra herby nutrition to our school lunches. Mint can relieve stomach gripes, indigestion and headaches. It's lovely in a tea. @ManorfieldPri
Year 3 harvested and tasted purple-sprouting broccoli this afternoon. There were mixed reviews from the children on tasting this new veg. ๐๐ This new growth was particularly peppery! @ManorfieldPri
Chitting our first early seed potatoes: Casablanca. Chitting is the method of allowing tubers to sprout ready for planting. The casablanca variety will be ready for planting in the next few weeks and ready for harvesting mid July. @ManorfieldPri#schoolgardening#growyourownfood

The spring bulbs, dwarf daffodils and irises, are brightening up our morning. Welcome back to school everyone. These lovely displays were planted by Year 2 back in November 2020 as part of their plant science learning. @ManorfieldPri#Growth#gardeninginschool
