It was a boring day at the World Cup until Colombia started playing.
The type of 4-3-3 Colombia is using reminds me a lot of Luis Enrique's Barcelona: Gustavo Puerta compensating for James Rodríguez/Quintero in a similar way to how Rakitić used to compensate for Messi.
Anyone that watches my YouTube channel knows that I love Yan Diomande...
I've mentioned him in 30 separate videos this season!
But I admit I was slightly nervous going into this World Cup... he's 19, he's had 1 year playing consistently in a Top 5 League, he's never played in the Champions League... there's a lot of hype...
He's not even played anywhere close to his best in that first half, at least compared to the Ecuador game, he's had an unusually high number of poor touches...
But still you see what makes him so exciting... yes he's quick, but it's his acceleration through the first 10 metres from a standing start, attacking either side, ability to stop in an instant... the vision, the awareness...
He's an absolute game-changer, as seen with the build-up to Kessie's goal.
There is no such thing as a guarantee, but I'd be very surprised if he didn't eventually succeed and become a Ballon D'Or challenger at whoever he joins this summer!
That man again... Deniz Undav.
He's an absolutely brilliant finisher, that just doesn't get talked enough about on these shores.
Do you know who averaged the most shots p/90 last season in Europe's Top 5 Leagues? Kylian Mbappe.
But do you know who was 2nd? Undav.
He ranked 7th for shots on target p/90... he's just really, really composed in the box.
That pass from Nmecha? Wow. Best player on the pitch for me.
Absolutely brutal on Côte d'Ivoire though. For all their attacking talent, I was so impressed with their commitment and tenacity in defence and their ability to build through the 3rds. No one will want to play them in the knockouts.
It's always difficult not to focus on the final chance of a losing side... but Adingra choosing to take a touch rather than shoot first time with 10 or so minutes to go? That'll haunt him.
Another great game of this World Cup!

The FIFA World Cup 2030 qualifiers begin in March 2027, and India is currently just one position away from dropping into Round 1.
For those unaware, Round 1 is essentially a knockout playoff between the lowest-ranked teams in Asia. Lose that tie and your World Cup campaign is over before it has even properly started.
India are currently ranked 138 in the FIFA rankings. The closest AFC nations behind them are Turkmenistan (141), Yemen (145) and Singapore (148). All three are currently in the Round 1 bracket. If any of them overtake India in the rankings over the coming months, #IndianFootball could be heading towards a nightmare scenario.
Meanwhile, the rest of Asia is already preparing for the qualifiers. Malaysia have overhauled their coaching and technical setup. Bangladesh are actively expanding their pool of diaspora players. Other nations are planning months ahead. What exactly is India's plan?
🚨🇮🇶 THIS IS THE STORY OF AYMEN HUSSEIN!
• His father was killed by Al Qaida.
• His brother was kidnapped and never found again.
• When he entered the USA for the World Cup, he was interrogated for 7 hours.
• He was very close to not being allowed to enter the country.
• And now he scores the 2nd goal in Iraq's World Cup history.
Can #IndianFootball accounts kindly stop with the stories on World Cup players who have ancestral connections to India and such? What are we trying to achieve or be happy about? We do have a legit NT with guys who’ve played ball all their lives, they could’ve made it but didn’t.
Good decision from Deschamps to give Olise the freedom to drop deeper and help organize play. I think he has the qualities to excel in that role.
At Bayern, we don't see him do it as much because with Kimmich dictating the tempo and Kane often dropping in to link play, there's less need for Olise to take on those responsibilities. France plays with Tchouameni and Rabiot in deep midfield so it makes more sense.
On the other hand, I'm not convinced by Dembélé in that role. Giving him freedom to roam suits his game, but it's more effective when he's operating higher up the pitch. Basically because he’s too unpredictable and can leave you exposed in defensive transitions.
When it comes to organizing play from deeper midfield areas, Olise is simply more reliable. His decision-making, composure, and passing range make him better suited to that responsibility than Dembélé.
@Kaus_Pandey17 What a game!! It should have continued for another 30 minutes and both teams would have attacked with the same intensity. Super impressed by the All Whites.
No FIFA World Cup is complete without “if X, a country of y people, can play, why can’t India, a country of 1.5 billion?” posts from Indian fans.
(y is a very small number, X is usually not a football powerhouse, often a debutant)
So much to like about 18 year old Ayyoub Bouaddi's game today. So mature and confident. He has shown for it readily in build-up so his keeper or centre-backs have less on-ball responsibility. In possession, he's also moved to whichever side the ball is on to show for it too.Great technical quality, strength, engine and disguise to buy himself time and to give Morocco stable possession all game. Big fan.
