[KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, MALETE @KwasuOfficial]

Kwara State University, Malete, has won the 2026 Creative Advertising Pitch Competition organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

The KWASU team defeated other participating universities from across the country in the competition that was held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, during ARCON's 4th Annual Colloquium at D'Podium Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

The colloquium was themed "The Future of Advertising: Role of Platforms, People and Regulation," and the national contest featured undergraduate teams from selected tertiary institutions that qualified through a rigorous screening process.

Participating teams were assessed on creativity, strategic thinking, innovation, and presentation skills while pitching communication campaign ideas before a panel of industry experts where KWASU secured the overall first position with an impressive score of 489.5 points, ahead of the University of Ilorin, which finished second, and Rivers State University, which placed third.

The victorious KWASU team was made up of five students from the Department of Mass Communication: Olusola Oyedele Oladeji, Adeosun Omotoyosi, Adeola Adeyemi Precious, Olagunju Boluwatife, and Olawoyin Habeebulahi.

Their winning presentation drew praise from the judges for its originality, strategic insight, and compelling delivery, a hallmark of the quality of training and talent within KWASU's Mass Communication Department.

NUC APPROVES 24 NEW PROGRAMMES AT KWASU

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the full-time take off of new programmes at the Kwara State University, Malete, with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was contained in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, dated June 19, 2026, and signed by NUC's Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.

14 of the programmes are at the undergraduate level, while 10 are at the postgraduate level.

Others are https://t.co/yvOMwiqK6K. Insurance and Risk Management, B.Ed. Technology Education, B. Community Health Science, B.Eng. Computer Engineering, B.Eng. Industrial and Production Engineering, and B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering.

The postgraduate programmes include M.A. and Ph.D. Fine and Applied Arts, M.A. and Ph.D. Performing Arts, M.A. Linguistics, PGD M. Tech, and Ph.D. Food Science and Technology.

Ph.D. Hospitality and Tourism Managment, Ph.D. Public Administration, and Ph.D. Mass Communication completes the list.

In his reaction to the NUC approval, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed excitement and congratulated the staff of the University who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the resource verification exercise by the regulatory agency.

He added that the university would continue to sustain the excellence in teaching, research, and community development for which the institution is reputed, producing the excellent human capital resources needed to propel global development.

KWASU research teams secure $43,913 TWAS-UNESCO and N83m NRF grants

Four research teams from Kwara State University (KWASU) have secured competitive research grants from two renowned funding organisations, reaffirming the university's growing reputation for research excellence.

At the international level, a research team led by Dr. Bolatito Eunice Olanipekun as Principal Investigator was awarded a $43,913 research grant by TWAS-UNESCO.

At the national level, three KWASU research teams emerged successful under the 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) grant scheme.

The team led by Dr. Abdulwaheed Musa received ₦37,590,000, while Dr. Kehinde Peter Alabi's team secured ₦25,000,000. Another team led by Dr. Khafayat Yetunde Olatinwo was awarded ₦20,435,900.

While presenting the award letters to the successful researchers, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, congratulated the grant recipients on their outstanding achievement, describing their success as a reflection of the University's support of impactful research and innovation.

Professor Jimoh also encouraged the awardees to mentor early-career researchers, stressing the importance of building a strong research culture that will continue to attract competitive grants and enhance the institution's global visibility.
