@indepdubnrth Marcus, the newly formed Widows & Bereaved Partners Ireland #WPBI are trying to address just these issues. We’ve been in touch with government departments & hopefully they’ll start listening if we make enough noise.
The sudden death of a childhood friend has given me real pause for thought. A garden dinner with a glass of wine even if not up to @philipnolan1 standards is non-negotiable. My thoughts are with his wife (like me widowed too young) We need to put better supports in place for her.
@NoContextBrits The Isle of Man. Never could figure out how somewhere in the north of the Irish Sea could be a holiday destination until I went in the early noughties. Beautiful place, much underrated. ❤️
@NiecyOKeeffe Try being a widow if you fall unwell. No illness benefit for you if you’re already in receipt of a widows pension despite working & paying full fax & PRSI & reduced tax credits 🤷🏻♀️
Mondays can be a luxury à la @philipnolan1. Spinach tortellini with chicken & chorizo in a ricotta, oregano & thyme sauce with a side of garlic bread & a glass of Sauvignon blanc
Today is International Widow’s Day and to mark it Widows & Bereaved Partners Ireland have launched their website https://t.co/dej7DmEv4S Please share with anyone who is unlucky enough to be a member of the club no one wants to join ❤️ #widows#wbpi#Ireland
Definitely not ticking your culinary boxes @philipnolan1 but there is a lot to be said for a good book, a Hawaiian pizza & a bottle of Sauvignon blanc of a pleasant evening in the garden #heatwave
@philipnolan1 Being able to drive is a privilege that we take for granted until it’s taken away. I was off the road during my 20s due to epileptic seizures so I really appreciate now, after successful surgery the freedom that driving gives me. Like you I’ll never take it for granted again!
@nicolec_o We’ve a strange relationship with death here in Ireland. We take mourning our dead seriously. However, once the funeral is over the widowed partner is treated with a mix of pity, threat and abandonment. Sure, they should get on with their lives, but not yet.
@philipnolan1@Mick_Finnegan Oh wow Philip. I remember wondering why you had suddenly gone silent and hoping you were ok, just too busy to cook the lovely meals that kept me inspired during lockdown. I’m so glad that you’re doing so well & are so upbeat. Maith thu 👏
Has anyone been listening into the Newstalk & Liveline broadcasts about widows? It makes me so mad that they are just concentrating on the awful details of a death and not on the harsh realities of life afterwards. Family/friends can only help so much #newstalk#liveline#widows
