X is so stale. Out there in the real world 14% of the American population were born abroad. 50% of births are to minorities. The kids and their counterparts worldwide participate in a global culture of Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite. Kids in every country except China want to be YouTube stars. Everyone is on TikTok. Parents are Facebook (2 billion users plus). Christian evangelicals have more power in South Korea than the South. Mormons have been the fastest growing religion for a while now, each mission seeding new adherents in every country. Arriving immigrants have watched the movies, know the slang, mugged in front of a mirror pretending to Arnold or Michael, Taylor or Ariana.

40% of Americans have passports, compared to 5% in the 90s, and remote work is enabling a new generation, determined that though they lost 2 years to covid, no more would the cages of fear and habit constrain their life choices, travelling, falling in love, experiencing the richness of the broad spectrum of humankind, documenting it all in travelogs, instagram photos, WhatsApp messages, sharing dating tips on Reddit, learning each others cultures and choices.

Digital nomads cluster in Mexico City, in a resurgent Buenos Aires, in Bali, Singapore, Bangkok, Bangalore. Wherever long term visas are to be had, where beer and a bunk bed are cheap, where a boba and WiFi can be had.

The Tower of Babel has been built. The walls have fallen. Electric teens dream wavy Internet dreams on ephemeral digital clouds.
