AUGIS welcomes NICE approval of durvalumab + perioperative FLOT for selected gastric & GOJ cancers—advancing immunotherapy in curative UGI care.
MDT-led delivery, research, and real-world data will be key, with AUGIS supporting national collaboration to optimise outcomes.
The filming location for the @RATW_official reunion programme looked strangely familiar... was it filmed in the beautiful library at the Royal College of Surgeons, in London @RCSnews?
Either way we are delighted that one of London’s most iconic medical institutions will be the venue for our AUGIS Academy on 15 June, bringing together national research effort across OG, pancreatic and liver surgery.

It was great to bring the Council of AUGIS together yesterday for a really productive and engaging meeting. It was fantastic to hear about the progress made since we last met, the exciting work currently underway, and the ambitions for the months ahead.
We also had important discussions around the priorities for the next year, and plenty of planning for our upcoming ASM!
Always encouraging to see such commitment, collaboration, and shared focus on continuing to move AUGIS forward.
Thank you to everyone for making the time to attend, despite such busy schedules.

🌎It's World Barrett’s Oesophagus Day!
🚨An important opportunity to raise awareness of a condition that often goes unnoticed until serious complications develop.
Barrett’s oesophagus is linked to long-term acid reflux and heartburn, and while many people may dismiss these symptoms as minor, persistent reflux should never be ignored. Repeated damage can cause a change in the lining the oesophagus. This is Barrett’s oesophagus which has the potential to change further and can on occasion turn into oesophageal cancer. This is why early diagnosis and regular monitoring are so important.
⚠️Key symptoms can include:
🔥 ❤️🔥Frequent heartburn or acid reflux
🤢⬆️ Food or acid coming back up
🗣️😖 Chronic sore throat or hoarse voice
👅⚡ Acidic or metallic taste
🌙🛏️ Reflux symptoms can often be worse at night-time or when lying down
Risk factors may include chronic reflux, obesity, age over 50, male, family history, hiatus hernia and smoking.
World Barrett’s Oesophagus Day is a reminder of the importance of education and encouraging people to seek medical advice sooner rather than later. Earlier detection can make a significant difference. We need ongoing research into preventing, detecting and identifying those most at risk.
👩⚕️If you or someone you know experiences ongoing reflux symptoms, don’t ignore them. Speaking to a healthcare professional could help prevent more serious problems later on.

Our Association Manager, Sophie, is back at her desk having just wrapped up an unexpected whirlwind UK trip!
She set off from Deal, headed all the way north to Isle of Skye to stretch her legs, then took the sleeper train back south for a brief London pitstop before heading north again for a site visit in Harrogate.
One unplanned perfect moment: needing a quiet place to work between London Euston and King's Cross and ending up spending the morning working from The @britishlibrary
There are worse places to catch up on work than surrounded by shelves holding over 170 million items!
We thought it was a good reminder that public libraries and museum reading spaces are some of the best free workspaces available, far better than hovering over one drink in a crowded coffee shop chain. And as a charity, making even a small donation (the cost of that coffee...) really helps to support their work.
Never fails to amaze at how much variety you can experience in just a few days: coastal Kent, Highland landscapes, overnight rail journeys, London library quiet, and Yorkshire site visits, all stitched together in one trip.
