The Writers Guild of America condemns Scott Pelley's firing at "60 Minutes" amid CBS News' "cruel and needless layoffs."
"In the past year, CBS has enacted cruel and needless layoffs across the organization and shuttered CBS News Radio. In addition, based on a string of public reporting and confidential reports from WGAE members, it is clear that CBS brass is engaged in a near-constant level of editorial interference that would have previously been unthinkable... These assaults on CBS News, an institution of American journalism for nearly a century, are more than mere ideological interference with the news. They display a profound contempt for the journalism profession, for our members who have dedicated their lives to informing the public about the world, and for the ethics that underpin true journalism, chief among them honesty, integrity, and objectivity."

"60 Minutes" legend Steve Kroft says the news program has become "disastrous" under CBS News boss Bari Weiss.
“It’s the highest rated news program on television, and it has been that way for more than 50 years. The audience was up about 9% last year. Why would you mess with that?" he asks in an interview that's airing after Scott Pelley and other journalists were fired from the show.

I worked at CBS News for almost 6 years. It was a place that frequently drove me crazy bc of how resistant it was to change. How difficult it was to get things done bc you had to fight so many people and their “Cronkite and Murrow would roll over in their graves if they saw” mentality.
For those who think Scott Pelley was part of the problem, you are wrong. Yes he could be rigid and a stickler for certain traditions. But I will tell you now the Gen Z people I worked w all loved him. Like me, they forgave a lot of his boomer ways bc we were in awe of investigations he did using hidden cameras exposing snake oil salesmen hurting Americans; showing us how Assad was using chemical weapons on his own people; the pain of rural Americans waiting for half a day to get affordable healthcare in a parking lot of a mobile clinic; his searing interviews w survivors of mass shootings.
Yeah he was old fashioned in some ways. I used to tease him bc he always had trouble pronouncing Beyoncé’s name.
But he was willing to be pushed. He was open to new ideas. The fact that someone like me and someone like him got along so well is proof of that. The guy made me a better thinker and a better journalist.
Also: Alejandro Kirk’s set to start a rehab assignment after facing live pitching and progressing well. Likely needs 20 or so at bats before he’s MLB ready again but still a big step for Blue Jays.
Canada stands with Romania and strongly condemns last night’s reckless Russian drone incursion in Galați, which injured two people. Another escalation in Russia’s unjust war of aggression against Ukraine.
This incident is a serious violation of Romanian airspace and international law by Russia. Canada and our NATO Allies remain ready to defend allied territory.
CARNEY: Russia is losing 35,000 troops a month, faster than it can replace them. They are not gaining territory. Pressure on Russian economy is mounting. Ukraine is striking increasingly deep into Russian territory. As you can see, balance of forces is moving in Ukraine’s favor.
ZELENSKYY: Ukraine will receive Gripen fighter jets with weapons, like Meteor missiles, which can destroy targets at range of 200 kilometers.
This will push Russian jets back, and they won't be able to use guided aerial bombs on massive scale. This is our number one priority.
‼️ZELENSKYY: I gave the green light to our new long-range operations. Russia's oil industry will continue to shrink if Russia chooses to keep fighting
“We had a detailed meeting today with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and the Chief of the General Staff, Andriy Hnatov. I gave the green light to our new long-range operations. This is necessary for Russia to realize they'll pay for the war with their losses. Russia's oil industry will continue to shrink if Russia chooses to keep fighting” - Ukrainian President, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
“There is no grey zone. You either stand with freedom or with aggression.
If we stop supporting Ukraine, we are effectively supporting Russia.

Simple as that...🤷♀️
ZELENSKYY: We attack military targets in Russia, or their energy, which they sell to fund war. Russians deliberately target civilian objects: museums, schools, apartments. They destroyed this Chornobyl museum that we built for 40th anniversary just one month ago. Crazy assholes.
