Austria's most significant white variety is the indigenous Grüner Veltliner, which most probably derives from a crossing with Traminer. All quality levels are produced - from light, acidity-toned wines to the highly ripe Prädikat wines.
Traminer is one of the oldest European grape varieties, and is a parent of Grüner Veltliner. It produces deliciously spicy, aromatic wines, either in sweet or dry styles. Super versatile and age-worthy, Austrian Traminer is well worth seeking out!
Burgenland offers a variety of full-bodied red wines due to the influence of the hot, continental Pannonian climate. The Eisenberg, in the southernmost part, enjoys ideal growing conditions for Blaufränkisch and other red wine varieties with mineral-driven character and elegance.
