“Diversity is being asked to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” - @vernamyers
At Authentic Educators we LOVE this quote. It really illustrates what the difference is between diversity and inclusion, and why the latter is always the goal.
Bias! We’ve talked about it before, but this time let’s dig a little deeper. Implicit biases are attitudes and ideas that live in our sub-conscience that influence our daily choices without us even realizing it.

Happy Thursday! As we approach the weekend, Authentic Educators wanted to provide a quick list of ideas for celebrating diversity and inclusion at home.

Today we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was determined to be an agent of change, and his impact is still felt today.
Authentic Educators is proud to be apart of the fight against inequality by offering genuine opportunities to learn about diversity.
SPEAK UP! Now this piece of advice is easier said than done a lot of times, but it’s so necessary. Last week we talked about being an ally, and one way to do that is to speak up when bad things are being said about a group of people who may not be present.
When we talk about cultural competency, an ally is someone who is not a member of an underrepresented group but who takes action to support that group. Being an ally requires us to take initiative to protect and advocate for others.
An implicit bias is an attitude or stereotype that affects our understanding, actions, and decisions. What does implicit bias look like?
•treating (equally qualified) people differently in hirings or promotions or
•ALL of your friends are the same race

DO YOUR RESEARCH! 🤓📚 In these times most of us have an amazing amount of information available at our fingertips. LITERALLY! When it comes to understanding other cultures, it’s important to do your own research about their demographics, ideas, values, and beliefs.
Cultural competency is almost impossible to achieve without asking questions, and allowing yourself to learn. This Tuesday we want to encourage you to ASK QUESTIONS! “He who asks a question remains a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask remains a fool forever”.
Election Day! Today our country will choose the future leader of our country. Whatever your feelings towards the candidates, Authentic Educators urges you to exercise your right VOTE!
We host conversations via Zoom about race and culture, while providing a safe space for people to honestly share their views. Tomorrow is our next Candid Conversation at 6 and we would LOVE for you to join us!
