#AutopsyThoughts Its hard to see communication struggles in the healthcare system. The drive to offer "good news" becomes a slap in the face when the person dies. Better to emphasize how sick a person is to center the family, and add the positives on top of that.
#autopsythoughts As someone who cares for families in grief day in and day out,the Texas school shooting is enraging. Grief is hard enough with 90 year old parents. Unfathomable for families of 7, 8 ,9 10 year olds. Shame on this country for getting so out of hand with violence.
#autopsythoughts Tension rises during a case when there's jewelry on the body. It has to be documented, bagged and communicated to the family and the death care team. All to make sure it gets back to the family. A part of the case not in my control that has consequences. #trust
#autopsythoughts There's a connection between autopsy education and the fake news epidemic. The teaching photos I post get commenters sure of the diagnosis. Unquestioningly wrong but unquestioning sure and confident. To the point where they'll correct others, who often go along.
#autopsythoughts When a family in grief insists on an autopsy to honor their loved one's wishes (to have one), how do you participate when the case could benefit from additional family discussions but their grief is subsiding and you see them moving on? #CommitmentToMedicine

Today we honor the great Martin Luther King. May his memory today seep into our difficulties, inspire and transform those who need him, those who know him, and those whose walls need just a crack to let him in a tiny bit for start.

Our response to the tragic and shocking events at the Capitol is outrage and horror. With racism in and around the event now under scrutiny, we share our perspective. This is where the bar is set - not at equal rights, but "human." It's going to be far longer road ahead.
