@TRSH_MIDWEST I just hope you know that the main issue here is how you handled it at every turn. Disrespecting the artist's wishes and lying to them is not paying "homage". This is about much much more than just using several of someone's lines in your song.
@TRSH_MIDWEST You're leaving out the part where you gave them credit & publishing prior to being called out. Publishing involves royalties, credit doesn't. Y'all make actual money from your music. Doesn't feel right hearing you say that you followed their wishes here when you didn't
Hi I am leaving this app for once and for all and maybe even deactivating! wahoo! follow me on Bluesky or find me on Instagram (same handle as here). xoxo be well, all. take care of one another!

Despite my free time being entirely gone, I’m really enjoying law school!! Love to learn!! Love my small group of part time classmates!! Love being mentally stimulated!!
Come first round of finals I’ll probably be underwater but idk y’all it sounds silly but it’s been very good for me to work hard at something and feel good/capable
Was worried before starting that maybe I was making the wrong decision by going to law school (and working full time). Accepting that my daily life was going to change was hard but tbh now that I’m in the thick of it, it’s been a really positive life change for me :)
@WildOrangeMusic Sorry, I just decided I wanted to disengage as I think the discussion pivoted away from the points I was trying to raise. You're welcome and keep looking out for artists.
@WildOrangeMusic@FullBlownMltdwn I don't understand what this has to do with me asking FBM to be mindful of the information they "advise" people w/. Also I don't think it's very responsible to suggest artists avoid hiring a music lawyer to review a contract bc you've heard stories about some failing their duties
@FullBlownMltdwn All I ask is that you be a little more mindful of spreading inaccurate a hyperbolized information on the music industry as fact. Lots of people are clearly looking up to you and what you say.
@FullBlownMltdwn I'm sorry you signed those deals. Yes, labels can be predatory but I also take issue with what you posted about labels being like a "private bank with high interest loans" when there is not interest involved. You can't get sent to collections for not recouping your album.
@FullBlownMltdwn By virtue of the law, writers automatically retain 50% of their publishing. They can only sign away their "publisher share" which is the other 50%, and it is super rare to see that "snuck into" deals
@FullBlownMltdwn I'm sorry you've had that experience. I work for music lawyers who negotiate all sorts of music deals for artists and I just think that you need to be mindful of how you present this advice. For example, your publishing piece on this post is 100% incorrect.
