Ed Davey has written to Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson demanding she WITHDRAW official EHRC guidance protecting female-only spaces in toilets and changing rooms.
Let that land.
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission — a statutory body — has produced legally grounded guidance telling employers and public bodies that biological men should not access women’s single-sex spaces.
This is not opinion.
This is not politics.
This is the settled legal position following the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on the meaning of “woman” under the Equality Act.
And Ed Davey wants it gone.
His stated reason?
The guidance is not “compatible with long-standing British values.”
British values.
He used those words to argue AGAINST protecting women’s single-sex spaces.
The same Liberal Democrats who lecture the country about tolerance, inclusion and human rights are now lobbying a Labour minister to tear up statutory guidance that protects every woman in Britain who walks into a changing room, a refuge or a hospital ward.
This is not a fringe position within the Lib Dems.
Their leader wrote the letter.
The party has chosen its side.
It is not the side of women.
Repost if you think women’s single-sex spaces should be protected.
@shaundooley Well said! Always rated you as an actor & so pleased to see you speak out for women & girls. The injustice these girls have suffered is sickening & heartbreaking.
@WrathQueenof@helenstaniland It's very cold but dry & sunny in Yorkshire & our husky is laid out in the garden like he's in 7th heaven! They don't just survive the cold, they absolutely thrive in it! So fun to see.
@FondOfBeetles@Defo_not_Dave Everytime I see this, I want to ask why I, as a woman in her 40s who still has periods & is on HRT, doesn't get these elaborate PMT symptoms but a man on HRT does. If anything, PMT is a lot easier for taking HRT. Then I remember that logic & reason don't live here.
@Yeahbutnobut100 He has pannus, it's an auto immune condition that can cause blindness if left untreated. We have a really good vet so we should be able to sort it. UV light makes it worse but he really hates to doggles!
@Poppy_yyyyyyyy My mum had a small gold pixie which she kept in her purse but was lost when her purse was stolen many years ago. Years later, I'd just bought my first home & came home from work to find the little pixie sat on my bed. Very strange, my mum was happy to have it back.
@Serena_Partrick When I first discussed HRT for perimenopausal symptoms with my nurse. I was told very, very clearly not to get the gel on my partner or even the dog because of potential side effects. Is this guidance not universal or is it just ignored?
@JennyAscendant@HJoyceGender@Sorelle_Arduino I believed in the principal of it. My grandma, for example, lived independently until her mid 90s & watched a lot of TV as her mobility wasn't great. I didn't mind paying for a TV licence because there were a lot of people who benefit from TV & dont need to pay for a licence.
@JennyAscendant@HJoyceGender@Sorelle_Arduino Nope. My ariel broke in 2012 & I hardly watch any TV anyway. Just nipping down to my mum's for the Sewing Bee now it's back on. Cancelled BBC iplayer account completely.
@Wommando@ToBeDamnedOrNot Early 2000s I worked for RBS/Natwest & we had an incident of a pervert repeatedly calling. All women were quickly removed from the phone lines & recordings were swiftly handed to the police & statements taken. It wasn't pleasant but at least you knew it was taken seriously
