📸 Last week, AVEC and ELPHA joined Commissioner @CHansenEU and the @EUAgri team on the EU agricultural mission to #Thailand.
It was a great opportunity to meet with Thai authorities, industry representatives and stakeholders, learn more about the local market and exchange views on the future of EU Thailand agricultural relations.

Animal health is a strategic investment.
At the @WOAH General Session, I underlined the 🇪🇺commitment to prevention, vaccination, resilient veterinary services & global cooperation.
Healthy animals mean safer food, stronger rural economies & better public health.

We often talk about #FoodWaste 🚮 as a major challenge for Europe’s food systems. But 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗿 #𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝘆?? 🤔
As a partner in the Horizon Europe BREADCRUMB project, AVEC contributed to research looking at how #FoodMarketingStandards can influence food waste across different sectors.
The #poultry findings show a food chain where products are highly utilised and losses remain very low: 📉
🔹𝟭.𝟬𝟭% 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻
🔹 𝟬.𝟯𝟭% 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁
🔹 𝟬.𝟱𝟲% 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝘀
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿❓ Because reducing food waste is not only about what consumers throw away. It is also about how efficiently food chains work from production to market.
In our latest article for Poultry World, we take a closer look at what the BREADCRUMB project findings mean for poultry and the wider food waste debate.

🧭Last week, the @Europarl_EN sent a clear signal on the future of #livestock in Europe 👉 In its new report on securing a sustainable future for the EU livestock sector, MEPs recognise what is often missing in today’s debate: 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 #𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 #𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 #𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
For the #EUPoultry sector, several messages stand out:
🔹 #Competitiveness matters: European #producers must remain viable in an increasingly challenging global market
🔹 #Science must lead policy: decisions should be based on evidence, not ideology
🔹 #AnimalHealth is central: #prevention, #biosecurity and #innovation are key to resilience
🔹 #Balance is essential: #sustainability must go hand in hand with economic reality
This is an important and pragmatic contribution ahead of the upcoming #EULivestockStrategy. 🛡️
At AVEC, we see this as a strong foundation to build on. The priority now is clear: translate these principles into coherent, workable #policies that ensure a level playing field, support innovation, and keep #EUPoultry production strong.

A MUST-READ explanatory article by @GeWoessner on the most recent developments of the EU - #Mercosur agreement and the last-minute technical act, opening the way for a single Briazilian giant to capture the European meat market. 👇
🔴 EXCLUSIF Alors que l’accord de libre-échange doit entrer en vigueur le 1er mai, un acte technique voté in extremis ce 22 avril ouvre la voie à la captation du marché européen de la viande par un seul géant brésilien.

🌎This #EarthDay, let’s look beyond the usual narratives!
#Livestock is too often reduced to “the problem,” yet it’s evolving fast - driven by #innovation and circular practices - and remains a pillar of #foodsecurity and balanced nutrition.

Today, we celebrate one of the most effective tools in animal care! #WorldAnimalVaccinationDay
💉#Vaccination keeps animals safe from serious infectious diseases.
👉It supports welfare, limits outbreaks, and strengthens #OneHealth.
Europeans want to eat better – but cost, time and habits stand in the way.
New Europe‑wide data shows a growing gap between intentions and reality, and less focus on sustainability in everyday food choices.

@AvecPoultry Zeev Noga UECBV adds: We need to look at the big picture and understand that there is no 1️⃣single solution. It’s concerning that farming is no longer attractive to young people, so we need to find ways to support this essential sector in all its forms.
Our own Birthe Steenberg, stresses the importance of #food sovereignity for the EU. "We need to look at the situation of EU #livestock more holistically… global population IS increasing and will need 40% more protein until 2050… We’re not able to defend ourselves if we don’t eat."
💬 “There’s strong demand for #livestock products so we need an EU livestock sector that can support that demand,” says Gijs Schilthuis of @EUAgri when asked about the livestock strategy at the @pathways_europe and IDDRI event today on A Bright Future for the EU Livestock sector.

On the upcoming 🇪🇺Livestock Strategy @_CEJA_ says: #Farmers don’t have necessary tools to meet envi targets. The strategy should focus on strengthening the farmers’ position in the value chain.
🖊️Ahead of EU Leaders' retreat, 4⃣2⃣ organisations of the agri-food chain sign a joint statement:
❕If Europe is committed about strengthening its strategic independence, it must start with agriculture and food.
➡️Reducing strategic dependencies and reinforcing competitiveness in agriculture and the agri-food sector are essential foundations of a truly resilient 🇪🇺.
🧭Simplification, modernisation and investment in the competitiveness of farming and the entire agri-food chain must be placed at the centre of the EU agenda.
Investing in the EU agri-food chain means investing in Europe’s common security, and geopolitical resilience.
⏰The time to deliver is now.
📣We call on EU leaders to hear the voice of the agri-food chain and take concrete action with the policies and investments needed to secure the future, resilience and competitiveness of the entire sector.
