This is the part I have been struggling with too . It is not any less empowering to include one’s husband. Besides this is Lin Jin Qi we’re talking about, a really great man & husband. If the scenario were flipped, there would be an uproar asking why he did not mention his wife. It is the same as when she wrote that play saying their values do not align and primarily asking him to resign. Imagine being at the top of your career, and she is saying that is the thing blocking her from giving her heart. Again, we would be angry if it were reversed.

I know it was very romantic seeing him give it all up for family, and I understand from the cricket story that dissent within the palace was already taking place. Historically, during the Ming dynasty, the eunuchs ended up with a lot of power and were corrupt, and he would not want to be caught in it.

But my point is that this is not how marriages work. You love a person in spite of their choices. But yes you point them in the right direction, but not by using your feelings as barter.
