Hi, @bunq. For the 2nd time in a month, my account has been restricted (pending "security" review) making it impossible for me to pay my bills on time. I have been given no reason for why these restrictions have been put in place. Please explain.
"It is tempting to view physical violence as the ultimate harm, doing so makes it easy to forget pernicious ways our societies perpetuate #structuralviolence."

@AlecStapp And will the IP for the vaccine be open for all to use, so that billions can be vaccinated sooner, avoiding the emergence of new variants? Or will public money still be used to create private property, kept scarce to drive record profits at the expense of lives saved?
@nickdawson People need a reason to have a cold war with China. War in Afghanistan is over, and we can't not have an enemy for too long or folks may start talking about a peace dividend.
@Jackstilgoe@ShobitaP@trilliz Sounds the same as we have in the US. Note the different length of each pulse and irregular repetition, which is supposed to be more attention getting. Also, the overtones to make it brighter (and so increase the dB). Phone speakers bring unique challenges for alert sounds.
@ChemCooper@UofCalifornia Point being, of the private R&D that funded, much more is conducted at academic vs private institutions, so probably greater chance of seeing the results publically.
@ChemCooper@UofCalifornia Here's all national R&D funding, business vs federal. Note: there are fewer and fewer private labs over this period. Also, it's hard to break down private funding into basic, applied, and development - self reporting by business is unreliable.
@vgwschutte I used to work at @SRI_Intl which, per the org's written history, first popularized "stakeholder" as a policy term. I'll note that, legend has it, it was specifically intended to distinguish from "shareholders," to include non-financial interests in policy decisions.
@Jackstilgoe@aeonmag As a fellow STSer and mediocre drummer, and person who designs repetitive sounds of medical devices, this resonates. Our humanity is inescapably embedded in the electronic sounds that mediate our lives. But it takes care to design them to bring out, not suppress, our humanity.
