COMMENTS:
The growing list of senior law enforcement officials facing arrest, investigation or criminal allegations paints a deeply troubling picture for South Africa’s policing and criminal justice structures.
Many of these cases involve allegations linked to corruption, organised crime, precious metals syndicates and abuse of state resources and interference in investigations.
The arrests have intensified public concern over the extent to which criminal networks may have infiltrated sections of law enforcement agencies.
While arrests do not amount to guilt and all accused remain innocent until proven guilty in court, the repeated implication of senior-ranking officials continues to erode public trust in institutions tasked with fighting crime and corruption.
The developments also place renewed focus on the work of oversight bodies and commissions investigating corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.
Sources say more arrests are likely over the coming weeks.

A truck with registration NPS 94149 was hijacked earlier today in Brits, NW, in what appears to be a well-planned scam targeting the transport sector.
The incident began when criminals, posing as a legitimate transport company seeking to outsource loads, contacted a relative and requested a truck. Believing the request to be genuine, the truck was dispatched to the indicated loading point.
Upon arrival, the situation escalated into a hijacking.
The driver was overpowered and held hostage for several hours while the suspects took control of the vehicle.
The truck’s tracking system was deliberately disabled, making it difficult to trace.
The perpetrators reportedly appeared highly credible, with all documentation and arrangements seemingly legitimate, highlighting the level of sophistication involved in the scam.
This incident serves as a warning to transport operators and drivers to exercise extreme caution when accepting new load requests, especially from unfamiliar companies.
Verification processes should be strengthened to avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
Anyone with information that could assist in locating the truck or identifying the suspects is urged to contact Hassan Ahmed at +27 83 509 4051.

A family in Alex is urgently appealing to the public for assistance in locating their 16-year-old daughter, Lesedi Leshabane, who has gone missing under concerning circumstances.
According to her parents, Lesedi was last seen on 29 April 2026 at around 17:00 when she left home. She briefly returned the following day, 30 April, at approximately 11:00, but later ran away again and has not been seen since.
The situation has raised serious concerns for her safety after she allegedly made threats about ending her life before disappearing.
It is further suspected that Lesedi may be in the company of a 30-year-old Nigerian man believed to be driving a red Toyota Starlet, described as a stanced vehicle and locally known as “68 Hero.”
The family is pleading with anyone who may have information about her whereabouts to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the family on 071 462 1016 or 081 785 5379, or report to the nearest police station immediately.

Update on Flight Attendant…
She was sitting in her jump seat directly behind the cockpit when Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collided with a fire truck on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport.
On impact, Solange Tremblay, the senior flight attendant on board, was ejected more than 320 feet from the wreckage. She was found on the tarmac, still strapped to her seat. She was conscious for all of it.
Her daughter Sarah Lépine called it "a total miracle." Aviation safety experts agreed, saying her survival was extraordinary given the complete destruction of the cockpit just feet from where she was sitting. Her four-point harness jump seat, designed to withstand extreme crash loads, likely saved her life.
But Solange's fight is far from over. Her injuries are severe: two shattered legs with open fractures requiring multiple surgeries and metal plates, a fractured spine, skin grafts needed for the flesh she lost sliding across the tarmac, and complications that led to a blood transfusion. She still faces several more surgeries and intensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again.
Her daughter and cousin have set up a GoFundMe to help the family. The funds will allow Sarah and Solange's husband Denis to take time off work to be by her side as she recovers in a New York hospital for the foreseeable future.
"My mother dedicated her entire life as a flight attendant and was very proud of her work," Sarah wrote. "Right now, my mom needs your help.”
