[The Fact] 260609 OTOKI Advances into Japan with Jin Ramen and Sesame Oil, Aiming for 1 Trillion Won in Global Sales
OTOKI has stepped up its efforts to achieve 1 trillion Won in global sales by establishing a sales subsidiary in Tokyo, Japan.
Last year, OTOKI recorded overseas sales of 409.7 billion Won on a consolidated basis, up 13.4% year over year. However, overseas business accounted for only 11.1% of total sales of 3.6745 trillion Won, highlighting the company's heavy reliance on the domestic market. Compared with competitors such as Nongshim and Samyang Foods, whose overseas sales account for more than 40% and 80% of total sales respectively, OTOKI's global presence remains relatively limited. This has been a key factor behind its ongoing business transformation.
The company elevated its Global Business Division to a Global Business Headquarters in 2023. The following year, it changed its English name to "OTOKI" for easier pronunciation, renewed export focused brands such as Jin Ramen and OTOKI Rice, and appointed BTS Jin as its global ambassador, launching a new Jin Ramen campaign.
With a target of reaching 1 trillion Won in global sales by 2030, OTOKI is actively exploring new international markets. It has established a U.S. production subsidiary, OTOKI Food America, and is preparing for local manufacturing and sales. The company has also expanded production facilities at its Vietnam subsidiary to target halal markets in the Middle East.
As the Japanese subsidiary prepares to begin operations in the second half of this year, OTOKI plans to accelerate its global expansion strategy. The company will focus on localized marketing aimed at Japanese consumers, promoting not only Jin Ramen but also its roasted sesame oil. Recently, sesame oil has gained popularity among middle aged Japanese women as a must buy souvenir from Korea, and OTOKI sees strong growth potential in this category.
An OTOKI representative said, "Japan is a barometer of food consumption trends, and we will strengthen the foundation for expanding our overseas business. As a comprehensive food company, we will continue showcasing the competitiveness of our products and broaden opportunities for Japanese consumers to experience a variety of K Food products."
