Sophie: 47 Years Later, Still Together!

Veteran radio presenter Fred Obachi Machoka, famously known as the "Blackest Man in Black Africa", and his wife Sophie are proving that long-lasting marriages are still possible.
The couple has been married for over 40 years and renewed their vows in 2019 at their Isinya ranch in a grand ceremony attended by prominent guests.

Fred says their love started at first sight in the 20th century and has only grown stronger in the 21st century. In a birthday message to Sophie, he wrote that he may not know much but he knows he loves her, adding that "love at first sight can last for centuries, Mungu akipenda."

Despite his fame, Fred has managed to keep his family intact. He once revealed that Sophie initially hated the attention that came with his celebrity status but learned to live with it over time. The couple has four grown-up children. Their son, Victor Keari Machoka, is a hotelier who now runs Fred’s Ranch School of Hospitality as managing director.

Their story stands out at a time when many marriages are breaking up over small issues, making them an inspiration to many Kenyan couples.
